RX8's always interested me, want to know more :)

I love how the RX8 looks and its uniqueness from the rotary. But i'm just because it is a rotary and less common, will it factor a large roll into getting this car as a daily driver? Like what is a good mileage to buy a rx8 at and what should i be very cautious about before buying one. I just want to make sure my motor inst going to blow up or have anything bad happen after like 10k miles i put onto it. thanks for your guys' feedback much appreciated, and excited to learn more about the rx8's!

There's a whole section dedicated to that at the top of the new member's section in BIG RED LETTERS.

i just finished reading it all, and i just want to hear from owners, like if you were to buy it again with the knowledge you have now, what would you do when looking for an 8. Would you look for 09+ models, would you only buy it with less than 60k miles, i just want to know the nit picky things please.

2007 Mazda RX-8 GT W/ NEW ENGINE Like this is, from the knowledge that I have, the best rx8 around me to get right now, color is perfect, with the new engine i know that the current owner couldnt have messed up the ingition coils that much so i'd be on top of that, and oil would be maintained and other stuff like that. Am i right? or am i blinded by my love for 8's?

Buying from a knowledgeable owner who knew how to properly maintain it and kept records would be huge.
I can't complain about my experience too much.
Mine is a 2004 GT that I bought +3 yrs ago with 18.5k miles, one owner, in pristine shape except for a bad cat and broken sunvisor.
Still broken, stays up.

Sounds good.
How many owners, and now did the engine go bad?
Find out if the cat was replaced, is O.E.M. and still in good shape.
Especially if you need to pass emissions for inspection.
Probably the most common cause of engine failures are bad ignition components causing clogged cats.
New ones are around $1400, cheap aftermarket ones don't last.

The owner said he was the 4th owner which worries me a bit, why has it been jumping around so much. and he also said "and the CAT was inspected and is in good shape. No excessive heat, glowing, or other worry points." Is there any issues within those answers?

He didn't say what type it was?
Cats usually glow when the car is misfiring or the cat is clogged.
You either take his word for it, or get it inspected yourself unless it's not a dealbreaker.
I run catless, as do a lot of us for better performance, gas mileage, sound, and peace of mind.

The owner lowered it from $7,000 to $6,750, since yesterday must be an eager seller. Do you think this is a car that I should get, even with the 4 owners do you think it portrays a big/bad risk? (If it were you buying one, would this be on the list of yeah I'd get, if it were good when I looked at it.)

Have the seller do a compression check and show you the numbers. If they want to sell, they'll do the test.
Or off to split the cost, IF and only IF it passes.

What does the passing of the compression test clarify? Does passing the test straight up mean the car is a good car and i can just do good maintenance and get a good successful car for the next couple of years and maybe more?

compression test tells you the health of the engine and if its blown or not. a rotary will run with very low compression, hell they can even run on one rotor

BigCajun gave you the answer in the first post: read the threads at the top of the new members forum. Specifically the new and potential owners. It will detail everything you should be aware of prior to purchasing an 8.

Agree with everything Bigcajun and Rx8 Soldier mentioned above.

In my opinion, get a newer model with lower mileage.
I had an 04 for 3 years bought it at 160ish k kms from the first owner and it lasted me till 282k kms. and Yes at 282k it was running on one rotor the original motor and tranny mind you.

From your questions above it's pretty clear you have not read the new / potential owners thread properly.

Read it and read it again till your head hurts. Cuz the last thing you wana do is buy a car without enough research and it end up being a lemon. We see people crying on this forum everyday.

Get the compression check, the lower the mileage the better. Rx8's don't sell fast unless its a steal deal so don't rush take your time.

Drive a few different rx8's to get a better picture,
Take it for a test drive, redline it a few times, pay close attention on how the car behaves while red-lining, after your test drive go down on ur knees look at the cat if its reddish or not.
after driving for 15-20 minutes, shut it off give it a minute or two and start again.

All the best..

ORIGINAL CRAIGSLIST AD (http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/5309087956.html)
"I have a recent compression test from a local dealer with documentation, 110psi hot with 2psi max variations between rotor faces."
This is what the owner said about when I asked for a compression test.

He also mentioned that he can scan and email me any service repairs all the way back to the window sticker and assembly line tag. And he said he's taking it to a dealership to trade in and get 5500$ for it so I could probably get this car from him from anywhere like $6,000 to $6,500 easily.

Would you guys take this deal?

This is what the owner said about when I asked for a compression test.
Ask him for a copy of the test results and post them here.

But you keep ignoring our advice. Have you read and UNDERSTOOD the new and potential owners thread? There is a full section that describes compression in an rx8, and how to understand the results. Reading that will give you better knowledge of what you're getting into...

This the the paper that he sent me. I did read the compression testing portion of the sticky, and I'm still confused on the results and if they're actually good.

The compression scores I'm used to seeing are single digits.
This test appears to use PHP numbers, which if I'm right are in the 'fair' range, 90s and lower are 'good'.
Those numbers and higher are closer to failing.
Try a search for compression #s using PHP.
Don't take my word for it, it IS confusing.

I cannot find anything on Google about compression testing numbers using PHP, can anyone help me out?
