S2 Tails
#2
ive been waiting to do this for a year or so..
new s2 tails are 750 each i think
Theres a company in singapore that is selling new ones for 1k for both, so thats an option..
used tails usually go for a whopping 350-450 each, and while i have seen them pop up once in a blue moon on rx8club, your best bet is to check ebay.. However Ebay isnt much better, Ive barely seen more than a handful over the years.
You can always go to junkyards, but since the s2 is fairly new and a low production run, finding a s2 in a junkyard close to you can be tiresome.

I'm not sure of the thread but the conversion has been attempted, and if I remember correctly the lights are not a direct bolt in and the overall look and fittment was not great. Good luck

you dont need the trunk but you need the bumper and you need to do some cutting and splicing or the fitment looks like garbage. Finding the tails and bumper is the hard part ):

IMO those look terrible, only improvement over stock is the clear corners set and they will run you $2100 for the pair.
Other than that their are half a dozen threads covering this swap next time try searching.

but i agree, those are ugly.
clearcorners are nice, but they dont justify the cost.

We did a full R3 swap onto Hoss-05's 2005 Sport. For the rear, you need the rear bumper, rear bumper brackets, and tail lights from an 09-11. There is cutting of the body involved and rewiring is required as well. You will also need to buy an exhaust for an 09-11 RX-8 like Hoss-05 did or lower your S1 exhaust (not recommended if you are low).

That was an awesome transplant.
Personally, though, I would prefer to have the S2 tail lights and bumper, but with the S1 front. The S2 front end never really grew on me...but those tail lights are really cool.

I'd have to agree. A s2 R3 rear with S1 ms front would be ideal for me

Yeah I never liked the front or the rear but it is growing on me fast. The Spirit R tails would be my preference if I did but they are $$$$$. I know a certain someone going the exact route you are talking about but with Spirit R tails and a legit S1 aftermarket bumper and another big surprise

- New OEM price is $563.12 each, Mazmart roughly 15-20% off.
- Ebay $100-350 each, depending on condition.
- F/S Section $300 Each (very rare to find).
But don't worry we love doing google searches for those that are impaired.

Eventually id like to get them while using the S1 bumper.

Jesus, you're awful at flaming. Well I couldn't find a set or even a single light on ebay. I'm not willing to pay oem price Cuz I don't like it that much. Yes I knew oem price before. I do hours of searching before I ask because I'm not a helpless sack of **** and I like doing things on my own. However thanks for your concern. Happy trails.

Actually this isn't entirely true and I think I might have some useful information for anyone wanting to do this swap that I haven't seen mentioned.
Mazdatrix has a rear bumper that fits series 2 tail lights.
It will even bolt on to the existing series 1 bumper brackets without modification. I emailed them about it and this is what they had to say.
This bumper was actually designed for an S2 as the S1 lights have a small gap.
So no modification necessary on the bumper however you will still need to cut out a small metal section where the tail lights themselves fit in but from what I read it is a small amount and you will be able to tell exactly where it needs to be done when you do it. This bumper requires the least amount of effort and is less than $400 but you have to like the look. Personally I do and I will be doing this swap in the future. Total cost somewhere around $1500 I'm guessing.
Also worth mentioning...japanparts.com had the Spirit-R tail lights which are just sexy as hell for about $900 before shipping. They are basically S2 tail lights with black shrouds.

The bumper will work with the factory mounts / reinforcement. You will have to drill holes on the bumper to mount to it to the existing holes on the factory mounts.
The s2 tail lights will work on a s1 body and fit the rear bumper.
