SAT radio issues

Hi everyone! My first official post as a new member. Bought my 8 three months ago and am still loving it! Before anyone judges the "A/T" in my signature, I'll explain that it was the big compromise for getting an 8: I have been a huge fan of the 8 since my pre-dl teenage years and am excited to finally be a proud owner! I knew I wanted a Gen II and GT, and the one I found in Indianapolis was too good of a deal to pass on.
So I bought the car under the assumption it didn't have Sirius/XM because it was not listed by the dealer, even though it had the "bump" in the pictures. However, after purchase I was putting lining clips back in the trunk (still not sure why they had popped out) and I decided to look behind the right hand side and found the XM Module mounted with the three wire harnesses plugged into it! So I excitedly hopped in the front and turned the key, hit the "Sat" button and nothing... so I ignored it for awhile until a few weeks later I realized the ESN for the radio seemed to be handwritten on the first page of the manual. So I call XM and they recognize the ESN is indeed for a Mazda RX-8 and they go ahead and activate a 3 month trial.
Now here I am, a month later, and still no Sat.... I have searched this forum backwards and forwards but it appears I am the first person to have the Sat hardware installed but have a button that does nothing... I even pulled the head unit out to make sure its plugged in, because from my understanding the wiring harness for the XM module plugs into the drivers side of the back of the head unit. There is definitely a harness plugged in (two, naturally, left and right) but yet the Sat button still does nothing!
Oh, and just in case anyone can help me with this as well: ever since I pulled the head unit out my voice commands has no sound... I see display change to "Pair Phone" and "Help" and "listening..." and whatnot, but just silence when it's supposed to be speaking... this worked before I pulled the head unit out.
Any ideas? Mazda wants to charge me $117 to diagnose it and already warns me they'll most likely just replace the head unit at $600 - 700 more.
PS. I have the upgraded Bose system with the 6-cd changer but no Nav.
