AZ Seeing Clearly

We've all heard of Mad Mike Whiddett right?! Yes? Good.
I'm curious to know all the steps it would take to get a project car close the pure rotary awesomeness of his Badbull, Madbull, and Radbull.

So lets say I hypothetically won a lottery of 40 million, and after taxes, I only ended up with 20k.

With a budget like this, what steps would be necessary to take in order to make this hypothetical car? I have done quite an extensive amount of research, however, being my overzealous, and inexperienced self, I cant help but KNOW I am missing a few steps.

So to start off, I might happen to have an (almost) bone stock manual 04' RX-8.
And to use up as little of this amazing budget as possible, I could hypothetically do all the labor myself. AAAND lets say I happen to have some connections, such discounts for places to acid bath and seam weld my chassis, paint, and whatnot.

I am interested in engine swaps and peripheral porting, all the crazy stuff everyone wants. But I am NOT interested in being told how dumb this thread is, or being told to "Search N00b" because I know the complications with funding, practicality, and lack of street use, and I have searched the forums (lazily).

I'm really just interested in seeing what you more experienced and knowledgeable people have to say about the build, not the life issues that would tag along with it, and any additions would be sweet!

Be respectful people! If this has been posted before, just give me a gentle shove in the right direction :D

20k won't even buy you the transmission out of his RX-8. Used.

I don't think you're quite comprehending the caliber of builds like that.

Sorry man you would need a few hundred thousand, and someone to add another rotor to your car on top of numerous other crazy awesome things.

I love the passion though, if you truly want to know, ask him or his team and see what they have to say.

But with a 20k budget you could have a wicked 13b-REW swap for a street car and a bunch of nice supporting mods and suspension. Might not quite get you there if you're doing a track build though.

Talking

Ah Yeah I understand about his car, I guess I should have explained more clearly now that I've reread my post

What I meant was what could i do to my current build that might come close? You know, forget about a 4 or even 3 rotor swap, and about the sequential tranny, those would be a dream come true (For more than just me I'm sure ;D)

Basically, would a TT 13b REW Peripheral Port be out of the question?
Would I need to change out the stock RX-8 transmission as well?

First I would start reading... a lot. The stock twins on the REW will not fit in the RX-8 chassis without a major hackjob, not to mention that anyone running peripheral ports will not be using twins. The REW will bolt right up to the stock RX-8 transmission but if you are putting down serious power it probably won't last long.

For 20k you could get a 13b-rew in with a single turbo setup and standalone, and then have money for suspension, brakes, maybe body kit, but reading questions like the ones you just asked makes me think that you might be in over your head and will need to pay a shop to complete stuff like fab work or wiring.

I wouldn't get so set on peripheral ports either. They're not street friendly at all and you can still make 600+RWHP on a streetported REW. PP is all top end power too, really it's only good for track cars with close ratio gear boxes to keep them in a very small and specific RPM range.

EDIT: Is this your only car?

Well I won't deny that I'm completely over my head! Probably a little insane too
Yeah I definitely try to keep up on the reading, but sometimes I feel like hearing it from the members of the forum... gotta keep y'all busy right?!

I'm mainly asking this for future reference and simply out of curiosity, as I'm sure you can tell (judging by me saying I won the lottery) that I don't actually have 20k to put into a race car... Yet ;D

Since most sites that I've found don't talk much about peripheral ports, I haven't really learned too much about them, other than they sound awesome, and are horribly unstreetable. So I'm just a little curious, why is it you cannot turbo a PP engine?
Also, lets say I was putting out serious power, what would be a good tranny to swap to? Or would I need to have one made specifically for it? Would I need a special computer to put into the car? (Honestly have know idea how that part works)

It's not my only car, I've got plenty of backups, this is only for a WAAAAY future build and I'm only trying to get a clear idea of how much I really don't know (As I'm sure you've noticed how little it is) I'm finishing up my second year in college and will be getting a bachelors in automotive engineering so I enjoy learning more about cars and engines, my car specifically, and the things I dream of doing to it.
