Should I buy a 2005 RX-8?
Hey everyone,
So I've been in the search of a new car. And RX-8s have always been a car I've always wanted. I recently test drove a 2005 with 80,000 miles on it, and I was hooked, ha. It's got some mods on it as well. The guy who owns the dealership is a family friend, so I'm trusting him when he says mechanically it's perfect. But of course, I'll still be taking it in to get it thoroughly checked before I buy it.
I talked him down to $7,000 for the RX-8. Is that a reasonable price?
My other concern is that I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews on the rotary engine. I've read a lot on how if you properly take care of an RX-8 it will last. So it's obvious they take a little more care than a typical car. I've also read that you're lucky to get 100,000 miles out of one. So if I buy this car can I expect it to only last another 20,000 miles? Even with the proper care?
Any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks!

Strength/Confidence
There's been a lot of owners that have gone well over the 100k mile mark with no issues at all. I don't think $7k is a bad price. Have a compression test done on it tho. Good luck.

The X is silent
There are no guarantees on that 100k mark. My RX-7 made it to 110K, my RX-8 made it to 75K.
If you don't want to put some serious love into the car [read: research and quality parts] then look at something else.

If you don't get a compression test, it might last 1 mile, it might last 250,000 miles.
If you get a compression test and it has average scores, it should last 20k+. If it has good scores, it should last 50k+. Assuming you don't ignore one of the other sudden-rotary-death-syndrome points, like a thermostat failure.
