IN Some people shouldn't drive in snow!

I'm a new member and owner and already had some one trying to take one of our beloved 8's off the road. Got hit in the rear and shoved into curb hard enough to crack my front rim and curb rear pretty bad.Set off side airbags, traction control isn't working right. One of the first snowfalls other driver said they tried to stop. I'm sure this isn't going to be a cheap trip to Mazda at least they had insurance. Anyone got a ballpark figure on the (3) passenger side airbags cost?
I'm going to have them check front suspension since it hit hard enough to crack the rim.
Not a good start to a 4 day weekend!

That really sucks and sounds like a costly fix,but you should change your thread title to: Most people shouldn't drive in the snow.

That really sucks... Sounds like it is going to be pretty expensive... What year is the 8 and how many miles/km's?

Also got any pics of the damage?

It could of been worse no body damage, I don't know if I can find 2 of the rims like I have now. 2004 w/ 65k first winter it's seen snow and already turned bad. Atleast passenger front didn't blow just side curtains and one in seat. I will post a pic nothing really to see but 2 trashed rims, underneath is what I'm worried about.

Hopefully the guy who hit you has insurance. They always say they do at the scene. Do you have collision insurance?

Between the shop that fixes your car and insurance, someone will find suitable matching wheels and look things over for damage. Keep in mind that your insurance company is an asset in pushing the other guy's. When you report this to your insurance, chat with them about how the process works.

There's a great post by a former member here, "docbeech", on how to deal with insurance companies and maximize your claim if you wind up totaled. I don't have it bookmarked...but maybe someone else who remembers it can lend a hand.

Glad to hear that no one got hurt.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Most likely Insurance will total your car, if the repair cost is more than 70% of the resale value if i am not wrong. I'd say even if they don't total it, you push for it to be totaled get the money buy the car back and then fix it, or just get another clean accident free rx8 just my 2 cents.

All the best.

At this point we will have to see what Mazda says I've got good insurance even if it ends up he doesn't. I think it can be fixed just want it to be right. Just pisses me off took a while to find the one I wanted, spent countless hours on here reading on what to look for before purchase and stuff to stay on top of after purchase.
So needless to say I don't know how well the new snow tires work I got to put about 12 miles on them before getting hit.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone, nobody was hurt which is a good thing.
The car can be fixed or replaced not the end of the world.
Just Sucks I have more fun driving this more than both my 7's.

Here is my only real concern the two rims that are trashed are aftermarket MKW wheels and I've been looking for replacements and they may be discontinued from what I found searching.
I really don't want mismatched wheels.
Will they replace all 4 so they match??

Some good news Mazda called and said nothing that can't be fixed they will have a total Monday.
The other driver did actually have insurance so for once I don't care what the stealership charges to fix my car. Never had to use this dealership with any of my 7's except for compression test and some parts so we will see how good they are.
I just want it right done right. Insurance company said if they can't find two rims to match ones damaged they will replace all four. Might be getting new wheels not all bad.

Ok the dealer has my car repairing the crash damage and said he will check to see what flash is on my ecu when they hook it up to address traction control issue.
What flash is the best for an 04' AT?
What is the most recent flash?
Figured it was a good time to address this if needed, from searching I know I have at least "L" from the way the oil pressure needle moves when resetting ecu.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Look on the bright side, you have a pair of rear wheels you can wail on now if the insurance company can't find replacements for the front!

So they have to replace all 4 wheels so they match I get to pick.
Will an 18x8 with +42mm offset work on an 2004 AT?

Sorry I don't understand the whole offset thing. From what I've read the stock wheels are 18x8 +50mm.
So the higher the positive offset equals more rim towards the inside of the wheel well? I have 18x8 with +40 mm MKW aftermarket on there now so the new rims with +42mm will move the rim 2mm towards the inside wheel well?

Basically any 18x8 with a +40-50mm offset will work?

Thanks for the help.....

The dealer that is fixing my car called yesterday and asked me if my airbag light was on prior to the accident and I said no. After $3500 of damage to right side of the car mostly suspension (same side curtain airbag deployed). I said did you fix the airbag, he said we didn't know one was needed.
I said did you even bother to open the passenger doors and see headliner is hanging down on the sides. Airbags clearly visible even though I had tucked them back up there a bit to move car when towed.
How well did they inspect my car?

What else did they miss?

Needless to say now they have to order one you would think they would of figured that out the first 3 weeks they had my car.

Its probably a good thing if they would have seen that for the insurance quote insurance would have probably totaled it.

They were already considering totaling it so I agree with you. The guy from the insurance company said if there would of been any significant body damage they would of totaled it. The low miles on car itself and a recent rebuild with @ 5k miles are what saved my ***.

So here's an update, 9 weeks 3 rental cars and over 7k in repairs and rental fees and my car still isn't fixed right.
I had to take it back for a noticeable vibration in right front which took most of the impact.
I put it up on a hoist to inspect repairs and you could physically move tie rod end with little effort, and hub assembly was able to be moved like a bad wheel bearing or bent spindle something isn't right.
They never even test drove it before returning it to me. At this point the stealership hasn't made any friends with me or his insurance company. They also gave it back to me with a broken stud and 4 lug nuts on the rear wheel and exhaust leak the never existed before.
His insurance company lost their *** on this deal they have more in repairs than I paid for it to start.

The stealership got them good the only good that has came out of it for me is I haven't had to drive my 8 in snow and I got new rims and have the 2 that weren't damaged for sale!

Well I got it back $8200 total for repairs and rental. Umm I only paid $7k with tax and plates, they lost $.

Out of pocket expenses for me $96 for a new set of rims and $84 for new tie rod ends (wore out not damaged) no labor charge bonus!
They fixed the broken stud and exhaust leak free also they made their money at least it wasn't my coin....

I'm just happy to have it back better than before the rx8 vs. curb incident.(Curb Won)
