Correct me if I missed something in the posts here, but he said the car had 35,000 miles with original coils. Man those oem coils are shot at 30,000 miles and sometimes sooner. That is why his cat is probably shot now too. Don't just think about replacing the cat , get those coils, wires and plugs replaced first. Continuing to drive with a compromised ignition can cause permanent damage in a rotary engine, let alone kill the cat.

Even worse, 40,000 miles on those coils and wires. And how long since plugs changed? What a prescription for engine and cat disaster ! Why do folks own and drive these cars and not learn how to properly take care of them ? The knowledge is readily available out here. Then it winds up costing the owner a fortune to fix or replace expensive parts. I guess too many years of driving piston cars. Well Zaxter you came to the right place for knowledgeable help. If you haven't already, read this : https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...t-here-202454/

Do the coils man . Worn coils have been shown to reduce your power 30 WHP and it can cause engine and cat damage. And the plugs are only good for 15,000 miles at best. Always change coils, wires and plugs together to be sure your ignition system is at its best, rotary engines are very sensitive to improper ignition.

**** I forgot I posted this years ago, well I figured out what happened to the 8. First off the CAT was busted, the honey comb filter broke apart and I didn't realize it. Second the downstream O2 sensor needed to be replaced, and third the fan that cooled off the CAT was not working either. I bought a new CAT on EBay for about 1,600. And I took it to a mechanic who was certified to work on the RX8s for the other things. After all of that my car ran just like it should.

What do you mean? Any pictures? That almost sounds like a ricer's idea of a cooling mod, technically it works but not really
