All that said, I'm kinda curious about this car. Not sure if it's an unbadged 40th Anny or something. Those cream seats aren't common here, except for Shinkas and 40th Anny. And it's not a shinka. The colour also looks like metro gray, specific to 40th Anny.

And those are Mazdaspeed wheels, so that's like $1000 alone. I feel like I've seen this car around a few years ago not far from my old place.

That rust though, jesus. A little surprised it's in that shape underneath, yet the rear wheel arches look OK. Reminds me of a friend's Miata that has a perfect body, rusty as hell suspension, because it sat outside for a few winters undriven. Potentially that's the story here as well. Noticed the front headlight level sensor is broken (it's attached to the lower control arm driver's side).

On startup it produced steam/smoke, but it's indoors. That's a little weird, coupled with the hard cold start, it might have coolant jacket failure. But not conclusive. I kind of want to go see it, it might be an easy fix.

Watched the video.

OP, throw in a grand for some decent summer tires, and another for a set of winters. Potentially another for a set of wheels. They should be good for a couple of years, though.

Isn't rust kind of a given at where you guys live? Thankfully, we don't get nearly as much snow as you guys.

As for the steam, it's not anything abnormal, especially given how long the car has been sitting. My S2 spat out a bit of steam as well after sitting in the garage for 2 weeks. My impression is that coolant smoke a lot thicker than this.

You will find a car.

I went and test drove 6 RX-8's in the Cincinnati area from owners directly and used stealerships. In all 6 cases the cars were not well taken care, had min/no records, and I felt like I should walk away. Then one day a car came up on my Autotrader/Cars.com search and after calling the dealer, it sounded like a reliable car. This truck only dealership took it in on trade and was very happy to send me additional pictures. They very much agreed to having the car picked up for a compression test (I paid). I made the offer contingent on the successful compression test results combined with service records (to which Ray Whitney pulled for me). The car turned out to be well cared for and was priced very nicely for quick sale.
