Throttle position sensor causing check engine light
Hi,
I have a 2006 RX-8, with about 61k on the clock, had the car around 5 years with no major issues. Recently been having issues with the check engine light, has been in the garage, and the ecu is indicating it's the throttle position sensor. Mechanic cleaned the throttle body, and reset the codes, but after a few days the light comes back on. The car struggles a little to start initially, have to press the pedal slightly, once it's running it's all fine. It did have a lot of low voltage warnings, but the battery has been replaced and those errors haven't reappeared. The car has been looked after, annual service at the dealers and so on.
My understanding is that the sensor isn't a replaceable part on it's own, it's all part of the throttle body. A brand new (if even available) throttle body would be expensive, but second hand used parts are available. Has anyone changed the throttle body like this, and any major issues? One listing on ebay mentioned that it needed coded to the engine with specialist equipment, is this the case? I would replace the gasket at the same time, does anyone have the part numbers for these, so I know I'm getting the right thing. I've done some work on the car in the past, replaced the coils, nothing too major. If it's a big job then I may buy the parts and have them fitted, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
