Thrust bearing

Hi all, apologies if this is an old topic. I've killed my bearing for the clutch and am looking at replacing it. Does the gear box oil have to be drained to remove the prop shaft or can I get away with it? Just rebuilt the engine amongst other things so cost is getting crazy now. Many thanks for any replies

It should be, yes. You can always save it and reuse it if you must.

So I'm guessing that if I pull the prop from the gearbox it'll leak the gearbox oil out? Was hoping it was sealed

It will leak out...but not that much unless you drop the rear of the tranny a lot from level.

If you tip the tranny up most will stay in

Ok cool, thank you both.
Should I need to though, what gearbox oil does the 8 use? Auto shops in the U.K. Aren't that clued up on the 8 and Mazda will only sell you their stuff, won't give any info at all

I use Redline MT-90 in mine. I think any good GL-4 gear oil is fine. You guys don't get a lot of our branded oil there
