Trouble with new MSD ignition coil setup

Hi guys,

Recently I purchased MSD ignition coils and fit them on my Rx8.

Everything was tested, coil, harness, wires, all is good.

I didn't have any problems with the OEM coils, I just wanted an upgrade.

Once I installed the MSD coils, the car is very long to start, and there is an obvious lack of power. I went back to the OEM, and everything is fine. I did a PCM reset and drove about 100km with the MSD.

We are two guys with the exact same problem.

-New MSD setup
-starting failure
-lack of power
-all parts are good and double checked

My friend thinks it could be the excentric position captor that is not sufficiant anymore with the more powerfull coils. He will change it soon.

Any of you guys ever heard of this kind of stuff?

Thank you very much, and sorry for my english, I'm french ;-)

Cheers

It would help to know the model of MSD coil used. How were they wired into the existing wiring? You may need extra ground like the BHR kit.

I don't think it's the eccentric shaft position sensor, that has nothing to do with the coils' output.

I use the 8247 MSD coils. It can't be the started since we feel lack of power when driving. I use an official MSD conversion harness to connect to the car with extra ground. Compressions are good on both cars, and as I said, no problem at all with OEM coils.

Many in Europe use MSD coils, as it is American product I thought you guys would have more knowledge of them.

It seems that the shaft sensor is what give the signal to the pcm for ignition. That's why my friend will try to replace it.

What are the dwell requirements of the coils?

If the coil isn't matched to the ECU you either need different coils or you need to adjust the ECU

The dwells are the same as the OEM coils.
