Turbo charging

I have a 2004 rx8 and am wanting to turbo it. I want to know what all I need to do to my car before I turbo it and what all I need with a turbo. I know a majority of the things but I want to make sure and want to get as much life out of my engine as possible with a turbo. I’ve seen a lot of people saying it’s not worth it because of the toll it can take on the engine but I also see everyone doing it. so I’m curious if it’s all worth it.

Do you have $10K readily available and burning a hole in your pocket? I'd start there.

I want to know what all I need to do
The two most important things at the very start of a turbo Renesis project are to set up two bank accounts.

The first account is so you can save money to purchase the parts to turbo your Renesis.

The second account is to pay for the rebuild of your Renesis, after your turbo it

Now that everyone has gotten their kneejerk reactions out, here's the deal. If you spend your way to a reliable build, you can probably get an extra 100whp. So 300, assuming we're boosting a factory-fresh healthy engine. You could aim higherb, but then the risks are higher, so let's build this business case conservatively. It obviously helps to have the work done by someone who has done it before.

What is that worth to you? All said and done, the 10k figure stated above is not crazy, if you are building and tuning for reliability. Cheap/fast/reliable: pick 2.

What you could do as an alternative is use the same money to swap in a 13BREW or a V8 with more power potential. Could cost more, depends how much of the worl you're doing yourself.

Read a thread by Brettus called something like "my renesis turbo build". You'll see what's involved.

I don't have much to add except that $10k is a conservative figure. Realistically you should have $15k+ sitting aside.

This statement alone says everything we need to know. There is no REW or V8 swap going to happen here by the OP. Perhaps he/she has enough money to make it happen by someone else though. Hence my original comment.
