TX Vacuum Leak - Help ordering UIM gaskets!

Hey all.

First timer here. I have been browsing because I've needed help getting my '05 6 Speed up and running, and have found a TON of awesome information on here. So thanks, a ton, for all the help so far. I am getting to terms with the search functions here and I'm sure I missed this answered in another thread somewhere, but I need a little help. Skip to the last paragraph for the actual question, the middle will be a short history of how I got to be where I am now, in case it helps.

The car belonged to a guy who has since moved from TX to the east coast, and no longer wants it. He left it sitting in an apartment complex for roughly 4 months before I got my hands on it, where I de-flooded it and drove it home. Luckily I had an 89 RX7 in the past, so was aware that the no-start issue was probably not as big of a deal as he thought. It sat at my place for the next year, just about. Two months ago I started digging into it, fixing the CELs and putting fresh tires on it, cleaning it up, etc. I replaced the SSV/VDI/AIR solenoids the other day and that took care of the CELs I had at the time, however after finishing that job I've had some awful idle issues. It starts and runs, as long as I baby the throttle until it's at operating temperature, but bogs down when I'm slowing to a stop with the clutch down. I can keep it alive with some blips on the throttle, but it's annoying to say the least. After 5 or 6 run cycles (cool to warm, then about a 1 mile drive around my apartment complex, rev to 3k and shut off), I got a new CEL. This one is a P0171, lean condition if I understand correctly. I popped the hood and started spraying carb cleaner around the UIM plenum that I had removed to get to those solenoids, and found a spot where it revs up when I hit it with a spray. Vacuum leak found!

Now, when I was trying to make space to get those old solenoids off I didn't pull the UIM all the way out. I took the airbox out up to the first elbow, then unbolted the back half of the UIM and disconnected any hoses that were holding it down. I was able to scoot it to the side enough to get behind and swap those solenoids without even taking the throttle body off. When I bolted it back up, all seemed well until I noticed the idle issue, and the P0171 code came up. I had a freshly oiled K&N air filter in there, so I thought maybe that fouled the MAF. Took it out, cleaned it, no dice. That's when I decided to poke around with the carb cleaner, and found a spot on the UIM where it revs up when I'm spraying. To be on the safe side, I want to take the whole thing back out and replace every gasket, clean every surface, and fix it the right way. I've seen a few videos on youtube, etc, but I'm having trouble finding the actual parts to order.

If anyone can be so helpful as to provide a link or a list of those orange gaskets that mate the UIM Plenum to the rest of the system, I would be forever grateful. I think it's 3 of the orange circles, 2 of the orange ovals, and one larger circle for the throttle body, but I can't seem to figure out the part numbers or find a kit online to order them all together. For reference, I'm linking this video of a man doing the same job I want to do on my car. He has the gaskets, they're in the packages, but I can't piece together how many of each part I need to order by watching this video.

Thanks a ton, can't wait to get this thing out on the road! One CEL left to fix... for now.

Try Atkins?

Looks like they list the part numbers too

(1) N3H1-13-655A
(2) N3H4-13-112A
(3) N3H6-13-112

they rarely ever go bad or leak, but if you had listed where you are I must have several sets laying around

I appreciate the offer regardless. I'm in TX, and I'm hoping this is my last issue to clear codes long enough for an inspection. My guess is I knocked something loose when I was trying to make space to pop those solenoids off, it was kind of a clumsy job. Wanted to put her back together the right way!

I'm assuming this code is due to a lean condition, which pointed me to vacuum leak. Will check back here in a couple days when the parts come in and I can get them in the car!

Update

Quick conclusion to this one friends.

I pulled the UIM off the car along with the air box and throttle body last night. Thoroughly cleaned everything, now I can see daylight through the throttle body when the valve is closed! I also managed to remove the film of K+N oil all the way through the system. It was excessive!

There was a smaller rip in one of my gaskets connecting the two plastic parts of the UIM. My kit came in from Atkins this morning, along with a pretty sweet sticker and a couple of useful pens. I put everything in place, bolted it down and double checked all my hoses and electrical connectors.

Started the car up with a 20 pedal stomp for good measure, and it caught an idle right at 900rpm. No hiccups at all, and all I hear now is what seems to be a tiny exhaust leak from under the car, behind the front wheels. That'll be fixed next.

After it warmed up I was able to cruise for about 20 minutes, no stalling issues at stops and the power felt smooth and fresh. It could use some new brakes, but otherwise I think we're all good to go now! What started with 4 CELs is now a solid daily driver back from the dead. This is a 2005 RX8 GT I believe, power everything with black leather interior, sunroof, pearl white paint and 18" wheels.

One question, I don't see anywhere in the paperwork with this car a mention of the engine being swapped under warranty. Under the hood everything looks like it is about the same age. Is there any way to tell if this thing was swapped by Mazda? If so, this is a keeper for sure.

Thanks for all the help on this forum! I would have scrapped the car already had it not been for all the threads that came in handy to diagnose and fix this thing.

Glad you were able to figure it out! If you can find the blue stamp on the rotor housings, that will show it was replaced by Mazda. Usually behind the alternator.

not sure if the aftermarket offers those in general, but you should be aware that this particular vendor is known for suggesting the parts they’re selling are OE when they often aren’t, but are still charging OE prices.

That's good to know. They ended up costing about $65 which OE or not, I was just happy to find a complete set for my job. I'll probably buy from them again in the future because they were quick and helpful.
