Wannabe Rx8 Owner
Hello, everyone. First, a little bit about me. I'm a 21 year old college student(physics major) and I'm looking to join the rotary club. I've been reading into these things for weeks, but I'm wondering about something. Most of the running 04-08 Rx-8s in my area seem to be automatics and the owners of the manuals in decent condition seem to severely overestimate the value of their cars. Additionally, there seem to be no rotary mechanics at all in my area that aren't at Mazda, and if they're here I can't find them.
What I've been thinking is that I could get a manual one with a blown motor for 2k or less and ship it off to Rotary Resurrection because it would be higher quality and cheaper than the dealer even with shipping. I live just a state over, so shipping it over wouldn't be too costly and I can just drive it back. And doing it this way means I know for a fact my engine will survive for a long time. I live at home so I'm not in any real rush to get this done. Any input on this? I know some of y'all have had to have done something similar.

Sounds logical. If you get a good deal on an otherwise mint car, invest in an RR rebuild and take good care of her, you're set for a while. In fact I think RR is selling a freshly rebuilt car right now. If still available. Check the for sale section.
