What is my RX-8 worth?

Hi guys, new to the club and relatively new to owning a rx-8 (loving the car!!!). I have read through the new members forum and links.

Did not see something that answered my question, I am trying to find out what my rx-8 is worth in regards to the year model. I understand there are allot of things that will determine the value but I have not yet found a RX-8 in the same condition and year model for sale. Found a few online valuations but I never trust those sites too much. Estimates and real cost is never the same :D

As I understand there aren’t many 2003 RX-8 6-speed manuals for sale and I have recieved allot of offers on the car but I am not sure what it is worth. Not interested in selling really. Just want to figure out if I should rather park that bad boy and get something else to play with to preserve the 8 (if it is indeed sought after as told.)

Thanks guys

We know zero about your car, and most of us know even less about the South African market for them. In the US, a 2003 (no such thing here, it would be a 2004, but SA may do model years differently) would be the most common, have the most faults (compared to later years when things were ironed out), etc. It's a manual, so you at least have that going for you. That pretty much fleshes the whole thing out from what we have to work with.

IDude, it's a 20 year old rotary. It's worth about what most 20 year old cars are worth, except less. If the engine has good tested compression, if the body is in great shape, if everything is well maintained, you can ask for more than a couple of thousand USD (no idea how prices translate to SA). But it's not exactly a collector's item.

As I understand. The RX-8’s engine was actually designed by a South African aircraft mechanic. Thats why the car was released earlier in SA. The 8’s first production was in ‘02. So if you are saying that there aren’t even any 2003 models available in the U.S. then I definitely have something specail. ( as I understand, it is very scarce in most countries) Thats why I actually asked if anyone knows what it’s worth. Thanks for the answers. In a way it answered my question, because I know the car is definitely worth allot more than I bought it for!

Just checked. First production was ‘02 but only released to public in ‘03. U.S. debut was only in ‘04. Thats why you won’t find a ‘03 model. So actually I have the fisrt year model of the car.

Model years are counted differently in different countries. In North America RX8s were sold in 2003 as 2004 model year. Mine is a 2004 sold November 2003. In other places the year of sale is the model year. There are no 2002 models, it's not a thing. The final body style was unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show on Oct. 31 2002. They didn't immediately fly the prototype to South Africa to sell it the following month.

Was your south african mechanic's name Seiji Tashima? Because that's the Renesis design lead's name.

I suspect someone told you a bunch of stories so you would pay them more for your car

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy you like the car, and we're all here because we love ours. But the one thing rotaries don't forgive is wishful thinking.

I was joking, but if your currency is similar to the USD, I'd be tempted to take it unless you love it like I love mine.

You could also Google search sites like Mecum Auctions and Bring A Trailer to see what RX8s have sold for recently.

None of this is true except the part about no 2003 models in the US.

15K South African Rand is about $900. No idea what the RX-8 market is like in SA. I know they go for much more in Australia than here, but that's also a different place. If someone told me they found an '04 for $900, I'd believe them without hesitation. If someone told me they found an '04 for $15K, eyebrows would be raised.

AUD is about 70 cents USD. It sounds like cars are just priced differently over there.

We know so that’s one of the reasons why Loki’s post is funny.

I love your RX-8. Thanks for sharing those images with us. I am thinking about buying an RX-8 and for that, I am gathering information online. I know this car is very costly but I found an app to get a loan and when I get a loan after that I will gonna buy this car. I want to know whether RX-8 is worth buying or not. Thanks in advance.
