What are the pros of the rotary engine
I am almost 16 with about 9 grand to buy a car and I am about set with the rx-8 but all I have seen on the web are reasons why not to get it. I just want to know the pros of the rotary.

If I had an 8 when I was 16, I wouldn't be alive to talk about it now.
Seriously though, unless you have a decent job and an extra few grand (after buying) I'd consider a different car. Almost every common maintenance or repair is going to cost a hell of a lot more than most other cars.
I can understand the need to have a cool car at 16, but there are better options for teens with part time jobs.

Drive an RX8 and a torquey engine like a newer Mustang/Camaro/WRX. That should give you a good idea of the "working" pros and cons of a rotary. If you do buy an RX8, you have to get a colored leather interior, girls like the red seats even more than the suicide doors. Trust me.
And read the New Owner's Thread up and down. The more research you do, the happier you'll be.

1. Tiny engine mounted low and back = one of the world's best handling cars at any price.
2. Smooth, like butter.
3. Engine that goes in circles smarter than engine that goes up and down. Duh.
4. Few moving parts better than hundreds of moving parts. Engineers call it "elegant" design:
"(of scientific, technical, or mathematical theories, solutions, etc.) gracefully concise and simple; admirably succinct."
5. Tiny engine = comfortably fit 4 adults in a sports car the same length and width of a Porsche 911.

Lol this ^ although we did happen to squeeze my father (6-1 240) my little brother (5-11 220) and myself (5-11 200) into the 8. It sat low as **** on my already weak suspension and was decently comfortable for the 3 mile commute. Had the commute been any greater than 20 miles it would have sucked for the passengers lol.

Pros:
Handles like a dream, revs to infinity and is smooth doing it, different from everyone elses cars, comfortable, the most fun you can have with your clothes on, cool doors, even car guys usually do not know what you are driving.
Just make sure you keep up with the maintenance, treat it right and it will treat you right. And remember, if you are getting it to stop light race your buddies (insert car here) you will most likely lose. And finally, learn to drive it before you wreck it, it handles great, but it won't correct your young hormone driven mistakes (I am speaking from experience wrecking my first Rx7 GSL-SE)

Are you a real car guy, who is at least somewhat mechanically inclined? This is not a car that you simply get in, turn the key and drive. Oil levels must be checked, temperatures monitored etc. Has to be warm before shutting it off etc. Make sure you read through that new and potential owners thread. I'm glad I did before I got mine.

I'm glad the new/potential thread did not exist when I bought mine. Might have scared me off, and I might have wound up with a Volvo.

This car is like an expensive needy girlfriend. Pay attention to her and treat her right and she will do all sorts of naughty things for you. Ignore her or neglect her and you will get your ***** stomped on repeatedly while she cleans out your bank account ... forget about ever getting laid.
