What should I resonably pay?
Well this is my first post and I'm brand new to the forum. I have been in the last 2 years becoming more interested in cars and working on them. My neighbor had a beautiful RX-7 that was ridiculously fast and awesome. That's when I first heard of the rotary engine but I didn't really start looking into the RX-8 until recently. I have read the New Owner forum ALOT. Especially the $100 or less mods that should be done after purchase. Anyways to my question.
What should I pay for an RX-8? I don't want to be ripped off yet I don't want a good deal that becomes bad. I am interested in a 2006-2008, non special version, manual, with preferably less then 50k miles. I have been looking around and I find ones for $12,000 and ones for $7,000. I am not really in a rush as of now. I still want to research the hell out of this car. Plus I'm stationed in Japan until late 2015 so it would be until about early 2016 I would be able to get one.
Thanks for the great forum and all the information,
Zach

You are 2 year out from purchase, and I can tell you that with that year and mileage criteria, it is unlikely you will be able to find very many options after that long. Every year of production had less produced than the prior, and mileage never goes down on these. There are people that keep them and barely drive them, but they are getting rarer and rarer.
Without compression scores it's hard to give you a target price if you were buying today, i pretty much have zero chance at guessing 2 years out, especially since it has a chance at being heavily influenced by any future rotary news (be it yea or nay)

yep, in 2 years there is absolutely no way to tell where the RX8 market will be. price will also depend on the condition of the car and have it inspected by someone who is very familiar with the car who can help you determine the overall important conditions of the car.
how the RX8 looks on the outside is actually only a small part of it's value to an owner. i just bought another that looks great, except for the front rotor hitting the housing internally because someone forgot to put oil in it..
