Its either low coolant...

Or a failing sensor in the overflow bottle

That's the low coolant warning light. You should check to see if your coolant bottle has coolant in it. If it's full and you still get the warning light the sensor on the inside of the bottle is broken. Requires buying a new bottle and replacing.

Another option is to just unplug the sensor and monitor your coolant level.

Also whats the check engine code? These cars don't really tolerate letting that stay on for any amount of time before you need a new engine.

Uh… no. Monitoring your coolant level is fine, but that won’t help should you ever experience a sudden loss of coolant while you’re driving. Ask me how I know.

$100ish tank versus $3000+ for a new engine. Even a fancy aluminum aftermarket one is less than $3k.

You know which one I will pick.

I do understand the risks. And a new tank is on the agenda but I just don't see the point in starring at that light. It bugs me ( I guess just as much as knowing it's not being monitored).

Its something that should be replaced sooner rather than later. Replacing the surge tank only takes about 10 minutes.
