Will be polishing OEM calipers on my RX8, for powder coating.
Post count #4. Newb' thread posting activated.
I have a 2008 RX8 low miler. Currently jacking with some appearance upgrades, while in pursuit of stock OEM-ness. Is that a word ?? It will be for me.
I read a lot on this forum. I do participate in other various forums, and have modified heavily, most of my 4 wheeled, 2 wheeled, single prop', and dual prop' machinations .. .. but I do enjoy my Mazda in its slick and clean, mostly stock equipment form.
Only upgrade is the radiator, but that is not the reason for my post.
Am interested in polishing my caliper set, in order to have a more uniform powder coat finish. As you know, the factory castings are very rough cast in finish. I have no intentions of weakening the structure by going surface polish crazy .. so no freaking out, on thinning the calipers. 😱 Just evening out the imperfections.
I have an extra OEM set, that I will be Dremel polishing, block sanding, & vibratory tumbling. Not interested in aftermarket calipers, either. So no posts, in that regard .. please.
Intentions are slicking them up, and choosing a low key, subdued color. My car is the 40th Anniversary exterior .. with a gun metal metallic powder coat wheel finish. Just a shade or so darker than factory. Guess that's not stock, either. Whoopsie !!!
Not interested in black, silver, or grey caliper color. Nor bright red, yellow, or similar color either. God help us all. There's plenty of those colors already. 🤢
Anyhow .. .. ... any experience, or inspirations out there ?? Post it up. This thread will move as a single father .. steam rolls life. I get stuff done, but updates may be a few weeks of blank spaces.
Why do this ?? Time for new brakes, and while the calipers are functional .. they sure didn't age very well. To be fair, they are a might bit fugly. Wish to correct that, to a bit of an exponential level. We shall see.
Thanks a bunch all. Take care.

For powder coat, it will require full disassembly of the calipers. It’s a bit of work but not impossible to do. Personally I just use a brushable high temp paint. That way you won’t get paint on anywhere is isn’t supposed to be (brake pad area for example). Only prep work is to just make sure the calipers are clean before painting.
