Some friendly advice, you dont want an 04 auto. They have the lowest power RX8 engine (only a four port engine) and are most prone to carbon buildup in the engine which can lead to failure (due to the fact you cant make the auto transmission do wide open throttle running to keep the carbon from building up on the internal engine seals, causing blow by which leads to cascading engine problems.) Additionally,so many of the RX8's other early issues were addressed and updated after 05. The latest year, lowest mileage manual RX8 you can afford is a better choice. Any used RX8 needs a rotary engine specific compression test done before you buy to know the true health of the engine. You don't want to have to spend extra thousands to replace a failed or failing engine.

Read this if you have not already. Best to you in your search.

The car has 120,000 miles on it. It doesn't say if the engine is the original with all that mileage, or if somewhere along the way the engine was replaced and/or rebuilt. That is a lot of mileage, certainly you could not even consider it without a current rotary engine compression test. The price is too high for that mileage, year and being an automatic which is less desirable. Yes a Shinka is a limited edition but the engine and car health are much more than just how good it looks. Kelly Blue Book used car values on RX8 are often unrealistically high but you can check on many of the auto trading sites and on the for sale thread on this forum and see what the cars are getting with good engines and lower mileage.

This car would need your hands on inspection, a rotary compression test ,full maintenace records and a proper test drive. Please other experienced club members comment here on this. I have owned seven RXs since 1973 , but my only RX8 is my current 2008 40th Anniversary Editiion RX8 with about 58,000 miles, so I have not personally been pricing any 2006 Shinkas.

Just FYI , here is the club's maintenance list for different mileage, so you can see any RX8 with over 100,000 miles has a lot to be checked, changed and/or replaced if not done before. And the seller is not even the first owner so maintenance records and research on the car would be critical before committing your hard-earned money.

30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

Anyone within 300miles of me selling an auto, is overpriced. I wish I knew how to get the price down without being a jerk.

Just make a reasonable offer. All rx8 owners know one thing for a fact, its not a camry or accord that would be sold fast. Rx8s are hard to sell not because they aren't good cars. It's because people live by myths and are scared to put their hands on a rotary.

All the best.
