Ebay Engines / LS or JZ
Does anyone have experience buying an engine from ebay? Now that my engine has low compression I want to go with something like a jz engine I know the swap will be costly but I know its worth it and what do you guys prefer LS or JZ swap? Also what does it mean by "front sump"?
something like this: link
JDM Toyota Crown 1JZ GTE Vvti JZS171 Vvti Turbo Engine A T Front Sump 1JZ Vvti | eBay
Thanks for your input and don't say search the forum

What makes you think that there is a registry of ebay sellers that sell good piston engines here on RX8Club.com? Or that all engines for sale on ebay all come from the same source?
Person A buys an engine that is blown but advertised that it isn't, seller blames the buyer, the buyer is screwed
Person B buys an engine in perfect condition and is happy.
Odds are that the engines aren't from the same seller, and odds are that both of the engines are the only engines that those sellers will ever sell on ebay. What's that saying? "Historical trends are no garuantee of future results."
Same with any other product on ebay. Other people replying will probably have different ways of telling you the same thing. Buy from wherever you feel comfortable. You alone will pay the penalty of a bad choice, so it would be wise of you to make sure that you make the right choice, whatever that may be, and no, asking a completely unrelated forum for a general opinion about buying something that has no actual support or knowledge base by that forum is not a good substitute for proper research and planning.

OP, If you are worried about being ripped off, purchase an engine from a reputable seller, preferably an importer that has been in business for some time, not some bloke selling stuff from his garage. The last engine I bought from Ebay was brand spankin new and from a creditable seller. A front sump is an oil pan that has the deepest/largest section in the front half of the pan, usually the cross member sits right behind this section.
