Engine swap thread..
Hey all, first post, so be gentle..
First, I'm just curious as to why it's so difficult to swap different motors into this car? I know I know, the rotary is part of what this car is about. I know.
Now, I do know most of it is because of the available room in the bay, but it shouldn't be a big deal to get most 4cyls in there, should it? I'm not talking a big LS v8, just a little 4 banger..
Specifically one of these:
v4 Katech | Katech Inc.
MOTUS MOTORCYCLES - The MST V4 Sport Tourer
Is the Motus V4 Baby Block Crate Engine the Future of Old School Hot Rodding?
Now, as per the last link "the price is $10,220 which includes the ECU, ride by wire intake, engine harness and fuse box" so you wouldn't need TOO MUCH more for the swap in the way of parts.. But for those that don't know about this motor, it's basically a Chevy ls motor cut in half and downsized. Designed for motorcycles, but it will be sold as a crate engine and they are encouraging you to put it into anything and everything. It was also designed to be a hot rodders "clean slate" highly moddable, and it's capable of big numbers..
What would you think of something like this bored out to 2.0l or more, with a mild cam regrind, possibly even a roots blower, dropped into an rx8?
Do you think the swap itself would be difficult? The motor itself is less than 200lbs, and it's small and compact because of its pushrod design. It might even be smaller in demention than the rotary... So lets hear it guys, thoughts, feelings, opinions?

it would generally be a Major HP forum area topic since nearly anything is more powerful than the average low compression Renesis

i think putting the engine swaps in one place is a great idea, as the threads can get made, and you never have to see them...
the Rx8 is hard because the ECU is on a network with a bunch of other stuff in the car, so putting another engine in, physically isn't the hard part, its things like getting the tach to work, as the gauge cluster is on a canbus with the stock ecu...

ive always liked RB26 engines myself. & dreamed of one in a Rx7
But being a new owner of a rx8 and learning about the rotary.
I would probably love an rb26 in it. But than again i can probably make same power with same MPG with the rotary for less $$.
To much fab work & ****. Moving steering rack~ everythings custom made~ than u need a $2000 ECU
Than u wont pass emission worth **** ~
Air condition and cruise controls out the window ~
And than u look at your bank account and its out $15,000 after it all.
SO i think a turbo kit down the road for a 13B is swell~
Plus u get the sick rotary sound & backfires :D. Not to mention your dad mindblown on the hole rotary ****.

ive done v8 chevette"s v8 monza, i like the mazda but at 75 k the motor is junk i bought the car for 900 so not like im destroying a good car its ruff on the outside, i did drive it, cool little car no compression, wont start when warm, or idle, fab is no problem, we have a iron worker and press brake at work my problem is i was wondering if anyone has found a good rack conversion for the eps? i acctually could clear the eps with this combo but would like some more clearance and ive heared about troubles with the eps anyway, i dont want to throw just any rack in there that fits and end up with bumb steer problems, the ls1 swap looks cool but i dond want to screw up the balance of the car the v6 sits entirly behind the centerline of the front spindles
