There are LSX engines but yes referring to LS engines as LSx is correct for referring to LS engines as a whole.

Apologies. I took that too literally. There is such a thing as an LSX. As 9k said LSX does denote the class of engine. I'll just leave this here

And whether you like to believe it or not, the rotor along with all the turbo piping and oil cooler crap weighs as much or more than an LS. The V8 is simpler, stronger per lb (you would call that density), and has more potential to make reliable, streetable hp.

Then just compare the LS to an all aluminum 20B N/A, that's a much closer comparison. Block to block, no extra stuff. Don't fault the motor for having reliability mods added on.

With improper care anyone can break any engine. Reliability is an old argument and we know the crux of it is the driver's fault.

Stronger per pound would be power/weight ratio, density is specifically referring to the replacement for volume. Math suggests that by increasing the density of the air you put into your engine you can increase power just as you could with more volume.

LSXREX 02-17-2015 05:51 PM

Valid point but I'm looking at it logically. Only ricers consider power per any unit volume. Who cares about specific output when it is installed in a similar weight car.

And no that's like comparing apples to gold plated oranges. I looked up the side housings. Just one is like $1600! What does an aluminum 20B cost? It would sure suck to have a near $10k motor die in 10k miles but that's what roturdies do.

9krpmrx8 02-17-2015 06:08 PM

Do you think and extra 160lbs higher and up front is insignificant?

LSXREX 02-17-2015 06:13 PM

Lets see the numbers man. Youre basing your statement on internet trash. I cant imagine ill get an honest number from ya. You have a 28k post sterling reputation to.uphold. youre not gonna let a V8 swap be lighter than your turdbo

... now the brand new cost of an engine matters for failure? LS engines fail too you know. I hear the C7 is having a rash of them already. Must suck to have a high cost engine that fails.

LSXREX 02-17-2015 08:06 PM

New technology always has bugs. Roturds wouldn't understand that as they use two stroke dirt bike tech.

RIWWP 02-17-2015 08:13 PM

Wait wait wait...

WE don't understand that?

The rotary is always new technology. It's only on it's 8th or 9th iteration since the concept was proven. At a comparable point in the piston engine's lifespan, it was getting a whole 300hp out of 28.5 LITERS (http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/f...rin-2014-12-02). With a reliability measured in hundreds of miles.

The rotary is advancing far faster than the piston engine ever did, it just started at a different point and has far fewer people working on it. Every rotary is immediately new technology, and every rotary thus has some bugs.

So thanks for making our case for us?

LSXREX 02-17-2015 08:22 PM

I see so I guess when rotaries become more mainstream I'll believe it. But while they litter the scrapyards and Craigslist my point is made. And evolving? Lol that's hilarious. They can't even be made to pass the emissions requirements that piston motor (very high hp ones might I add) pass just fine.

RIWWP 02-17-2015 08:23 PM

Actually they can pass emissions. :) In fact, they haven't sold any that haven't passed emissions. And they already said that the next iteration can pass the EU's much harder emissions too.

If littering the scrap yards is your argument, though, I'll wager that there are more piston engines in scrap yards than rotaries... A hell of a lot more.

LSXREX 02-17-2015 08:38 PM

Well ill believe.it.when i see it. Rotary guys sure are alot of talk.

RIWWP 02-17-2015 08:42 PM

Can you point to a single rotary that has been sold without meeting the current emissions regulations?

That's pretty obvious proof to me.

Brettus 02-17-2015 08:48 PM

Just went down and weighed my turbo renesis rx8 .
JDM model 6 speed with cloth seats ..... full tank of gas ,no weight reduction other than no cat and lighter front brakes

All up : 2963lbs

So ............. 157lbs (71kg in my lingo) lighter

RIWWP 02-17-2015 08:53 PM

Brettus, New Zealand pounds must be heavier than American pounds...

LSXREX 02-17-2015 08:58 PM

Proof? Id say i did prett good to not gain much weight adding a V8. Im also pretty sure my stock, more reliable, longer lived V8 will drag a turdbo renny down the track.

a ls1 camaro/trans am wll get 30mpg highway with 400hp while were lucky to get 20 with 180hp... Yes, that changes dramatically when your WOT, but so does any car, especially boosted cars

You will have to take my word for it . I just bowled up to the weighbridge at our local dump , and poked my head in the window to see what the weight was.
i would love to take you on , not that i'm much of a drag racer ..............not sure how much value there would be doing it in separate countries/strips

LSXREX 02-17-2015 09:16 PM

Not buying it. However that is an epic win for your roturdy brethren who will likely take that back to their.camp and chant around the fire.

RIWWP 02-17-2015 09:21 PM

Yeah, you just want us to take your unverified word for your claims, while not being willing to take our word for our verified claims.

Typical muscle head.

I could go down to the weighbridge and get a slip for any number I liked but I thought just reporting the truth might be more useful ;)

LSXREX 02-17-2015 09:28 PM

No worries. I didn't expect much. I'm coming to y'all's house with real numbers. I have nothing to lose so lying doesn't do me any good. However you guys have your roturd reps to maintain.

Lucky? I never had trouble getting more than 20, usually 22-23. I even got 27 3 tanks in a row, although that was rather boring.

If you can't get 20mpg highway in an 8, you are doing something wrong, either your driving or your hardware maintenance.

Actually out of all of the claims you have made... dozens of them... the weight was the first one you actually showed up with some proof on. The rest is just hot air until proven otherwise. You would hold us to the same standard that you fail to maintain yourself.

LSXREX 02-17-2015 09:42 PM

What is required to show that I'm driving my car everyday in Austin traffic. 50 mile round trips to school. Sometimes twice a day. Not sure how to prove that. My only goals when I started this swap was to build a better car. I feel I've done that and happy with my work. Best part is another roturd is off the road.
