Yes because the weight of stock RX-8's is such a mystery,

LSXREX 02-17-2015 03:50 PM

Well what would that weight be? If it's the common ~3050 lb weight claimed in the pamphlet then I would say 70 lbs is an unquestionably amazing trade off for a reliable, powerful, dynamic, and frankly superior platform. Keep in mind I have the huge T56 as well and 3.5" PST steel driveshaft. That rx8 chopstick couldn't transfer the twist from a garden tractor.

9krpmrx8 02-17-2015 04:47 PM

Search and find out, plenty of weights listed here by the Autox and track guys. Did someone say the LS was going to add a bunch of weight? It's more about where that weight is if you care about handling. What are you trying to prove?

LSXREX 02-17-2015 04:55 PM

I understand your need to cover your tracks now but I've been assaulted by people wanting proof that the LS improves the RX8 in almost every way. I can confidently say that my car will weigh less than a turbo RX8. As far as corner weight is concerned that is yet to be decided. I went out with some buddies in the hill country and a guy in a yellow 05 couldn't get away from me. Let him set pace and was close enough to read a magazine through his back window. My data logger never saw more than 57% throttle the entire run. I'm sure he had his pedal glued to the floor the entire time.

You ever been to driveway austin? We are doing a track day with some friends. You're welcome to attend if you like. Other than hundreds of passes and a day in a Caterham R500 at the Bahrain F1 track, i don't have a lot of track experience.

9krpmrx8 02-17-2015 05:04 PM

OH, you think it will weigh less than a Turbo Renesis, I see. I don't know why you think adding a turbo adds so much weight, the stock manifold is heavy as f@#k and the turbo (Greddy T618Z) intercooler, and piping doesn't weigh much at all. Also what trim is your 8?

They didn't make yellow in 05' and the fact that he couldn't get away from you means nothing,. The driver mod is the best mod. You ever been out to Driveway Austin or Harris Hill? One of the instructors at Harris hill uses a basically stock 6 speed RX-8, you should go watch him run with V-8's, you might have a different outlook on what a stock RX-8 is capable of, let alone a properly sorted one.

 yes I have, my buddy runs his M coupe out there, have you gotten a license yet? You can't just go and run AFAIK.

Maybe I got the year wrong. Got a video of the run. I'm sure in the right hands it's a weapon. This car will get used a few track days.i never said a stock 8 wasn't an incredible chassis. Hence why I swapped in a better motor. I feel like I've given you guys quite a bit of what yall wanted to see. You're welcome to show all of us how much your car weighs. Full tank of gas of course.

LSXREX 02-17-2015 05:16 PM

Guess I need a license.

9krpmrx8 02-17-2015 05:24 PM

Yeah you need to complete the courses and as you progress, they open up the track courses. Great course though, it is a blast. But watching a 16 year old kid demolish vettes and Porsches in a Spec Miata will give you a new perspective on horsepower.

I have been wanting to get mine weighed, but I am not expecting any drastic difference. I have added a bunch of stuff but also removed a bunch of stuff and my battery is half of what a stock battery weighs.

Harris Hill has open tracks days. You have to pass a pretty strict tech inspection though and it is also a nice course.

BigCajun 02-17-2015 05:26 PM

My fully loaded '04 LY GT is 3809 lbs.
That's FULLY loaded, original sticker price was $35,559.

9krpmrx8 02-17-2015 05:32 PM

I doubt it weighs that BC, Brillo's base Sport 6 speed RX-8 weighed in at 2960lbs (fully fueled). And don't talk to me about original sticker prices,

His appears to be a base Sport as well so that means the LS swap added 160lbs or so give or take for scale accuracy.

That's what's on the door, so I figured that's what it weighed leaving the factory.
GT has a lot of extra weight, heated leather power seats, sunroof, spare tire kit, appearance pkg, spoiler, 6 CD, nav., that's a lot of weight.
What about sticker price?

LSXREX 02-17-2015 05:53 PM

You got $10 to get your car weighed 9k? I'm eager to see the results.

Yeah the leather seats are heavy but not by much overall. And the rest doesn't add up to over 800lbs. Probably more like 200lbs at most.

And I mean some of us paid sticker price,

Yeah there is one at the Pilot Travel over in BFE, I will have to check it out.

LSXREX 02-17-2015 06:07 PM

Please do. Now take the discussion to the shit talking thread. I'll have corner weights and dyno numbers soon. I'll be dropping some more weight with the 3" exhaust next weekend. Revised numbers (full tank of course) coming soon. I eagerly wait for your results. Obviously theres no way to check your credibility so I'll just have to trust your results. It would be a shame to weigh more than a V8 RX8.

hey were you able to stiffen up the chassis to prevent the rear from hopping?

LSXREX 02-17-2015 11:11 PM

New tires made things so much better. I have the diff bushings but not in a rush to install them now. Rear is very planted now and other than spinning the hell out of them all is well

Kane 02-19-2015 10:30 AM

Might consider a different set of gears too. With all the low end torque, taller gears might take down some wheel hop and give you some top end without shifting as much.

TeamRX8 02-19-2015 11:38 AM

We already had that discussion in the other LSx thread. Since your a Mod you can probably still read the expected response that was deleted from public view ....

Kane 02-19-2015 08:36 PM

I missed it, I'll have to go back and look at all the drama.

I'm assuming the exciting conclusion is one (or several people) are determined to be homosexual?

That's generally how these discussions seem to end.

TeamRX8 02-19-2015 09:56 PM
