Wow your all aluminum long block is only about 30 lbs lighter than my all iron long block.
I guess the different valve train really adds up the poundage. Wonder what an all aluminum pushrod version would weigh...

If you think about it, engines are pretty hollow. They still share everything else but this has 3 extra cams, 12 extra valves, and larger heads. Kinda suprised it weighed in as low as it did.

Poly mounts showed up today. Engine mounts are the next step. Once positioned I'll pull the subframe to weld them up and finish welding the steering mounts. I should powder coat it all.

I'm using my phone for the more recent updates (on the laptop atm). I keep getting token errors and there's nothing more annoying then writing a long post and having the site error out and loose it all. It's happens here all the time. I can take crap from other users but when a piece of software ***** up it really gets under my skin. On the computer it's easy to hit ctrl-a then ctrl-c to copy the post so WHEN it screws up I can easily ctrl-v paste it back and try again. Not so easy to copy/paste on the phone.
As for the project... Everything is sorted out. I have all the major components but I still need a bunch of little things like hose and I still have to run the fuel return line and pick up some AN fittings for injection lines. I do have the cooling system figured out though. That was something I hadn't addressed yet. I'll be making an aluminum expansion tank that will be located approximately where the original one went. I've been putting off all the other aluminum fabrication because my bandsaw is broken. I recently bought another one and just ordered the blade tonight. No one had a 89.5" blade in stock but I found them on ebay. Once that's running I can go to town on the expansion tank and intake manifold. It's all 1/8" sheet.
The radiator still needs to be modified. The top left tube has to be cut off and moved to the lower right (so the hose is the same as the Isuzu coolant inlet tube). Then the top left corner gets three AN bungs welded to a 3/16~1/4" plate that will be welded on to the radiator to reduce stress on the radiator tank. It will have two -16 inlets from the outlet lines from the heads, and a -8 or -10 that will run over to the expansion tank. From the expansion tank, a 1/2" outlet will feed back to the heater core inlet. The heater core outlet runs under the back of the intake and picks up an inlet port to the water pump. That -8 can be restricted to the smallest size required to provide adequate heat. This keeps the majority of the coolant flow going through the radiator. The -8 is also the highest point in the radiator and will be responsible for letting air out of the system and to the expansion tank. The radiator cap will be the small 32mm one and located in the expansion tank. It's going to be pretty clean under the hood as far as plumbing is concerned. The radiator site low enough to run 3" to the throttle body from the FMIC. All the other turbo piping is below the frame rails and the turbos will sit behind the engine mounts. It will be hard to know it's boosted. But that's not happening yet. I'd like to get her up running first and save up a bit for an AEM Infinity to handle FI engine management.

I'm pretty sure we've all been there. There's nothing quite like losing 20 minutes of work in the blink of an eye. But if you can, please hang in here. You've withstood all the haters, and that's no small thing. Don't think I could have. And you do some brilliant work. Hope you can find a way to keep posting here.

I use Firefox with Adblock Plus and Ghostery and do not experience any errors with this site. You might be experiencing script errors. You have already discovered that copying your text before submitting the post can save you a lot of frustration.

Grassroots invited me to do a thread on the build over on their site. I haven't though. I would like to rewrite it at some point so all the facts are in order but I'll probably wait until it's finished to do that.
I'll keep posting quick updates for now for those who have an appreciation for the fabrication involved, despite the choice of engine, and who have supported the build. I'm glad 45 pages worth is entertaining to someone. It's just so easy to snap a pic with the phone while I'm out in the garage but I hate when it fails to post.
So... My bandsaw blade showed up this morning. Damn that was fast. I'm going to the metals shop this afternoon to gather the rest of the materials I'll need. Steel to finish the engine mounts and some more aluminum for the expansion tank and intake. Which by the way I'm going to see if the OEM one fits under the hood. If it does, I'll use it and worry about a custom intake when I boost it but that'll be next year. Tonight I'll try to get the rest of the AN fittings ordered as well.

Probably noisy as hell. I'm more worried about the throttle response. I don't have any idea if the RX8 throttle is linear. I don't remember it being progressive when I was messing with the ECU. I might have to reduce the minimum position though. It looks adjustable if I pick the glue off a screw in the side of the throttle body.

Thanks. I design the parts and cut the pieces but a friend of mine does the tig welding.
The first one we made mounted to the core support but then I realized the fill port was below the heater core. Oops! The last pic is the second version.
