LS1 swap and new member intro
#157
lol, I could get behind a 350Z or 370Z v6 swap. Remember, my motivation for this swap was the quest for a motor that could do 500hp in near stock form and has the potential for 800+ with a build and some boost. This thing will become a racecar in a couple of years.
please read the previous page for answers to questions about what systems were kept and what was removed.
all lights work, using gauges from a 99 miata cluster mounted behind rx8 cluster hood, all accessories work, AC compressor is not installed but the controls work.

Move the battery to the trunk and you're 40 pounds there.

The car is not on the road yet. I am still addressing details.
The battery was moved to the trunk, the new steering rack is much lighter that the EPS rack, I removed a bunch of material from the nose of the car and left the crash bar only, and the stock twin oil coolers are gone. I wont know what it weighs until I can hit the scales but I can tell you that it does not sit any lower up front than before. I expect it to weigh close to the same as before.
Stock '04 GT suspension for now.
I just R&R'd the engine so I could go back to an F body pan with improved racing's oilpan baffle. Other than exhaust, that was the last big thing on the outside of the car. Now it is time for interior stuff.

I have been driving the car for a little bit and have been trying to button up all the loose ends and small issues that come with the territory. Here are my impressions.
The car is quiet! I did a 2.5" ORY pipe into stock mid/muffler.
The 07 MX5 rack is a good choice, the steering feels good.
I really need to mount the front sway bar.
I wish I had more money to do coilovers and bushings and a cage and track this thing!
Stock Camaro SS power is strong and the torque is wonderful. the engine revs quick and the power builds all the way to redline.
more updates to come.

I looked through your thread and I did not see any pics of swaybar solutions. Do you have a link or can you post the pic here? also I would need some kind of reference measurement for your engine's location front to back. (see pic below) I am curious to see how low and how far aft our engines are compared to each other.

Sorry man, I thought I had those pictures loaded on the build. I'm not running the power steering pump but I will measure two locations so you can make sure everything checks out. It will be tomorrow before I can do it though.

They look exactly like what I was going to build but I just want to make sure the bar will clear my pulley and pan because I think my motor may be a bit lower than yours. It may be further back too so we will see.

So I have about 2-2.5” I could slide the motor forward beforethe sway bar would hit the pan but I only have about 1” I could go down beforeit hits. I did find some lower arms forthe sway bar that was longer so you could push it out further if needed andjust use longer arms or if you can tig weld make new brackets on the lowerA-arm.
Just let me know if I can help!
