Wink

Rotary engines are lighter anyways therefore it will handle better outside of a straight drag- into circuit or drift!!! and if u dont know 50/50 distributed weight on the Rx8. Front/Back. Thats why its handles so dam good. Friends with 350z's, Gt MUstangs, and Suby's all say it handles real good if you get it with the sport Suspension and bigger rotors (brakes). They still should have added a turbo!! wouldnt of tipped the 5050!!!:-(

Ive seen 3 rotor Rx8's but not 4 rotor Rx8's. Seen Rx7 4 rotor! I know u this topic is either LS1 or JZ. I'd pick JZ havent seen a JZ Rx8, simple... You gotta keep in JDM!
Furai is a 3-rotor.

Used to drive a 460rwhp heads/cam LS1 Fbod. It is my favorite engine to modify and work on for its simplicity. The valvetrain is extremely easy to work on with self adjusting rockers. It is light weight (for a V8) and is happy to rev. There's a plethora of head and camshaft choices to tailor the powerband for your application.

Lots of good how to info here: http://www.ls1howto.com/
Best tech site is www.ls1tech.com

Thankfully there is less rotary snobbery here than some other Mazda forums.

However, I still don't understand why poeple are so keen to say the point of RX -X car is to be a rotary. Not at all. The point of RX-X cars are to be sports cars. An engine is an engine as long as it fits into the chassis, has an appropriate powerband, and doesn't gunk up the handling.

When my 8's engine blows before 100k--which it most likely will--I'll happily be throwing in whatever SBC motor is affordable and light enough to maintain the RX's handling characteristics. And the funny thing is I bet my V8 swap with MegaSquirt will cost marginally less than a Renesis replacement, maintain the excellent handling, and give me GOBS and GOBS of cheaply and easily upgradeable power... WITH BETTER MPG!

And people say pushrods are a--gasp!--downside? WHO CARES?

I must say I disagree. I have no problem with people swapping engines. I firmly believe without the rotary engine you no longer have an RX car. If it doesnt have a rotary it is something else. The rotary is what gives this and any other RX car character, and makes it what it is. Once again I have no problem with swaps, but rotary makes the RX!

To the OP...this is easy 2jz!

Edit: LS1 to 2jz---first I thought this was a swap you were going to do thread.

I agree.... if you want an engine swap... GET AN ENGINE SWAP. The motor is the motor and the chassis is the chassis... switch em mix em... whats it matter.

If the engine doesn't change the handling of an FC, FD, or 8, and has a large torque curve... what's changed about the car other than having a much more user tunable lump? The RX-X cars are amazing because of their forgiveable handling and sheer 'fun' factor. $ for $, a swap makes much more sense for major horsepower upgrades. A rotary is cool and all... but I bought the car for it's handling... not for it's under powered gas hog of an engine. The only plus of the engine is its sound in the high rpms... but the sound of a built SBC revving to 7500 sounds MUCH nicer :-)

Cost of bolt on turbo, or cost of badass swap... it's not like you get to keep your warranty with a bolt on turbo.

Nothing wrong with any of those engines.

But i think a lot of people are forgetting the roots of the RX.

the reason why we drive an RX its because RX=Rotary eXperiment.

Last time i checked the corvette ways 3200 lbs around the same weight as an evo but the evo is better handling and if they had the same hp the evo would win no doubt. For example there is a 860 hp evo in New York that runs 8.54 in the 1/4. No American car can run that and be street legal

EVO is better handling ? And there are plenty of 1,000HP street legal Vettes, Vipers, etc.

This is also American made and street leagal and does 270MPH and puts down 1200HP or so from the factory.

Like I always ask people looking to swap engines or build, what is your goal with this build? Meaning are you looking for the most power, reliability, agility, sound, certain class? These are all factors builders should and must take into account. For example, more and more professional drifters are swaping American LS1’s or 350’s in their 240sx, supras, rx7/8, etc’s because of the reliability, torque, and ease of locating parts. It’s much harder to run to your local auto parts store in the middle of a competition and find a 20b or 13b apex seal than it is to find a complete rebuild kit for a chevy 350. As much as I adore the 2jz, parts are harder and more expensive to come by. If all I wanted was a nice street/autocross build, 2jz all the way.

Yeah sure... Have you ever owned any other mazda? All mazdas have character. I've never owned or driven a non sports car mazda that wasn't at least 20% more fun than most cars in class.
