dz--that much power will not be handled by the chassis as we know it and it sure doesnt sound like you want a road car. Maybe you would be better off going with a 3 rotor? Sorry I just thread jacked....

There's enough room to use flipped truck manifolds but you need the non egr ones because the egr manifolds hit the steering shaft

I don't know how the Hinson motor mount set up is as far as clearance for the downpipe to snake between the manifold and engine block on the pass side
You might have to do a custom one for that side depending on size of exhaust pipe

If you want to go Turbo LSx.... Hinson actually makes a single turbo kit for the LSx engines. would probably fit too. On a vette it uses the stock drivers side manifold into a tubular log ont he passenger side. Puts the turbo in roughly the same location a cetrifugal head unit usually goes. Would easily meet those power goals and fitment wouldnt be too rough.

Been thinking of something like that for my Z06.

700hp in a lsx is crazy. Not saying you can't handle it but with an ls you make almost full tq by 3000 rpm. Our Miata de tuned made 427hp and 390tq. 300 tq at 2800 rpm. To get the 8 to handle that much low end tq would take some ingenuity. Lsx power band is insane compared to the rotary set up. You pretty much have stupid power from idle to redline haha

It's kinda disappointing you post pictures of this on here and post on facebook about how the rotary is a piece of sh*t and 150 ft lb of fail.

I've had a 650rwhp C5 and it was over the top. More than you can possibly use on the street even with sticky tires. Not to mention your car looks like this every weekend after a romp at the track:

What makes you say that? If you upgrade the half shafts and diff and anti-say bars, I don't think it'll be a problem. Rgonza has about 900hp with his 3rotor, and I've pretty much given up on the rotary engine. I'm really getting sick of the durability issues, tuning issues, and also emmisions-so I'm saying bye bye to the wankel soon.

Well I would make my own manifolds, just wanted to see how much room is available.

Hp is not your enemy. Its tq that will be your enemy. if 600 lbs tq will shoot the insides of a Camaro rearend out just think what that diff will do in the 8. We would have to figure out a way to get that rearend to handle power. Possibly even change over to a ford 8.8

true that and the way the diff is mounted to the frame will have to be reconsidered.
drive shaft problems. trans and engine mounts will have to be beefed up, then the constant twisting on the body itself would have an affect after a while. you can even crack windshields with that much power
you would probably be wise to strip it down and seam weld everything first, then beef up every powerframe mounting points + all the other stuff already mentioned and then you would end up with a car that would not be easy to street drive.
Can it be done---sure. question is why? Wait a minute---i have done some crazy stuff too

yea... I'm pretty sure this motor swap proves my dissatisfaction with the renesis. now that you and others are seeing my posts in multiple places online, I gotta begin making my posts more... Reserved I guess.

Well I'll just throw this up in the air, the Renesis is a piece of ****-FACT. People can argue all they want. Previous rx7 engines were a ton better and you just can't compare Renesis engines to them. Rotaries in general are not reliable in the long run-you'll always be worried about chipping or breaking an apex seal, apex& side& corner seals sticking, about compression falling. I've just about had it with them.

I wouldn't call it a piece of **** it is what it is, it's when people try to make it somethings it's not is when they run into trouble. It's no speed demon but it goes alright.

My original renesis engine-totally stock lasted 42,000kilometers and had compression ratio 5. Btw, I payed 39000euros for a car with an engine that did even make it to 30,000miles. I never tracked it, I only raced here and there on the highway, always changed my oil and plugs. I've seen so many 8's here go through the same crap, so in my honest opinion it is a POS.

That's because Mazda fucked up big time with the early ecu's trims.
Have fun racing your new 700hp car here and there on the highway.

My renesis has over 30k miles and 35+ track hours at the moment... compression still in the 8's on all faces.

the rotary is different and it requires a different type person to own it. You cant treat it as a recip.
I dont want to hijack this thread--but we in Ga had come to the conclusion that it is not really a bad engine. We just expect too much from it.
Now back on track?
Question for the builder--would using the short snout version of the LS engine have any real benefits?
Do you think there is room to put a v/6 in there without steering mods?

I bought my FD back in 1996 new, after 4years built a new engine, did a single turbo, haltech e6k, and sold it in 2005. I got the RX8 thinking that I would have a normal easy daily driver, with none of the problems that was associated with older turbo engines. I've built many engines, I am(was)a rotor guy...

got ya--but we have had a fair number of cars in Ga that have thousands of miles on them and thousands of track miles on them without any real problems. Yes they do loose power and yes they are not as fast--but they are still going. You are right though--you have to mod them some in the cooling and lubrication areas to get them to last and you have to service them regularly.
I do miss my cammed v/8's though.

Having been on here for a while you get extremely sceptical when someone starts a thread like this - especially someone with limited funds who is relying on a 3rd party.

I don't mind being proven wrong at all . Would rather do what I can to discourage someone from making a big mistake than sit back and watch it all happen .

But , this looks to be the real deal for a change . I'll reserve any congratulations till the final outcome is known however

Just an update for everyone. We made it to our show with everything set in. Stirred up alot of people who liked the swap and alot of people who were die hard rotory. Needless to say it was fun and enjoyed talking to people about it.

Now back to the business. I ordered a fbody pan today cuz our corvette pan won't work. Ill post up picks about why it won't work. Ill get the pan in tomorrow and get everything permanently mounted and start moving on to the next steps of the build stay tuned and thank you guys for the support as we work thru all this.
