If you arent comfortable sending your car to them, they are going to sell everything you need online and you can get your local shop to attempt the swap.

I wanted to buy a corvette just for the v8. A good(late) used one can still run 30k. Why not take the soul of one and put it in my baby. Even if it cost 15k (thats conservatively high so I dont get grilled) , you have everything the rx8 should have had to compete speed wise with just about anything else on the road.
I took a gamble buying an RX8 in the first place, back then I didnt believe I would attempt to even go to college... then I did, but I bought the car because of how unique and beautiful it was. That being said, I am willing to gamble on a company that has been caught screwing up, they should be scrambling to rebuild their image now instead of making the mistakes that gottem in trouble. Gotta believe in that second chance. Plus I cant stop watching the Iceland ls1-rx8 Burnout video on youtube, haha.
And my rims are stock and ready to be replaced. If I do ask Hinson to build it and they end up taking those shitty rims + tires, ill happily ask them to take off a couple hundred for me on the installation and ill put it toward some better ones. Ill just make sure to put them on the same day I turn the key and drive out of their garage.

So, when you get the LSX in the RX8, any thoughts on LSX forced induction?

Lol.
I doubt if this is going to get done. You know me--i like to think about things and figure out how things can be done. You never know--if it ends up being a doable thing--i may end having a project to do with my retirement money.
Then --sure --the engine is yours--but I want my bottle of Crown Royal back

Hey guys,
I know it has been awhile since an update, but I have been really busy with school and working to get some more money to drop into my project. However, I did order and pay for the Hinson Motorsports LSX V8 Mounting kit, so hopefully soon after Christmas it will get delivered. If it does I will post pics and a little build thread showing there kit. Just in case anyone else is using a third party to get there mounting equitment for an Ls swap you can see it here.

Happy Holidays,
Joey

i wonder if using the ls4 front pulley would make any real difference. And yes with some work the ls4 front pulley will work on the ls1. it reduce that lenght about 3 inches --down to a bout 24 from flywheel to front. The accessory's would have to be reconfigued

It would only be fair for me to give you back something aged 25 years or more, so hopefully this will help motivate you

and your knack is figuring out how to do it wrong, followed by everyone then responding and correcting you, which ultimately clarifies the right way, so it is a more round about way of eventually backing into what is proper

Cool, hopefully you don't have any problems getting what you paid for from Hinson. I look forward to seeing this done.

i am thinking that dropping the steering rack( like angel did on his 3 rotor) a little with a bumpsteer kit and using the ls4 harmonic balancer ( the crank would either have to be milled/rebalanced or the engine would have to be built with the ls4 crank) then room may be there?
You could actually use the ls4 engine --the rear of the engine has the castings present for the bolt holes to convert it to a rwd engine.

or take the easy way out and drop an LLT 6 cyl in and build it for a little over 300rwhp.

Hey olddragger...
A 13mm shorter crank buys you 3 inch reduction in overall length compared to an LS1/2/3?
LS4
The oddball of the LS family, the Gen IV LS4 was designed specifically for transverse mounting in front-wheel-drive Impalas and Monte Carlos. To accomplish this, GM shortened the LS4's overall length-from crankshaft to flexplate-by 13mm and streamlined the accessory drive. Furthermore, it shares the same 3.780 x 3.622-inch bore and stroke dimensions as Vortec 5300 truck motors, but is based on an aluminum block and topped with LS6 cylinder heads. Despite their displacement handicap, LS4s are relatively stout for their size, producing between 290-303 hp. However, they're almost as expensive as LS1s and LS6s on the secondhand market, so it's of little value to muscle car buffs seeking a swap candidate.

the ls1 is 27.5 inches from flywheel to front of the front pulley, the ls4 drops it to a little over 24. The ls4 also has a different accessory drive set up.
The measurement you posted about is between the rear of the crankshaft to the automatic trans flexplate which on the ls1 is about 7/8 of an inch.

You don't need to be bothered with swapping in a boat anchor in order to have a reliable 300 hp engine

I'm pretty sure this guy will have a lot more than 300, most mildly tunned N/A ls1's have well over 400hp.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "mildly tuned". Headers, cat back, intake, ported throttle body, and a spot on tune might get you to 335-339 rwhp, which is close to 400 crank, but not "well over".

Add a cam and the requisite springs, push rods, retainers, and you'll easily get over 400 crank, but I wouldn't call that "mildly tuned N/A" any longer.

I would love to see this done properly, with working electronics etc. has anyone done this properly before? I could imagine how sick an 8 would be with tons of torque and HP. I honestly look at a swap like this a non DD and i have another DD on the side and about 10k in my savings to fool around with in other words this is some serious Ish.

For reference guys my Car is an LS6. Only real difference between it and the original LS1 is a bit better heads, intake and cam. Stock C5(LS1) 6speed cars make ~300rw, C5 Z06s(LS6) make ~360rw.

Now with my mods: 228R Cam(228/228 .604/.604 112), Valvesprings, pushrods, Long tubes, Catless X, underdrive and a good tune I put down 417RWHP 389tq. This is considered a Mild to moderate N/A setup on the corvette forums.

I have less than $1k total invested in the parts. The beauty of a very busy LSx used parts market. If I ever want a bit more I can snag a nice set of heads for a bit over $1k and get above 450rw easily.

The most important aspect....the torque curve:

Thats correct--I have heard of someone putting an LLT v6 into his. A v6 will still have more potentional power and tq than this engine. It may make a swap easier as it may clear the front rack without a problem. This I do not know for sure, but it does seem more likely.
With the age of this chassis and the now much lower purchse price--transplants are inevidable. You cant deny this excellant chassis/steering and braking.
I know where a chassis is now that is fully caged etc for $4K. Drop the LLT in it and have a great reliable TTC car.
