American Touge cruise WallaWalla, Tri-Cities

Hey, just throwing this idea up in the air to see what people think. But it would be a super fun cruise with probably the most curvacious road in America (or at least to my knowledge) only thing is it'll be a long cruise, 300+miles. Probably start in Pendleton, OR from take 84 to Lagrande, and then 82 to Enterprise probably have lunch there (I have friends and family up there so could probably arrange for a BBQ at the lake or something) after lunch would jump onto 3 to Lewiston ID and that is where the real fun begins, that road has everything from hairpins to uphill and downhill including a little diner at the bottom which may be a lunch possibility. Once we get to Lewiston we could hang out, have a little meet somewhere, maybe at the mall, and then hop onto 12, which will lead straight to Walla Walla or the Tri-Cities. Me and a friend are doing this regardless because we love this road , it's perfect for our near 50/50 weight. So if anyone else has an entire day to spare (and a couple tanks of gas ) Let me know and we can try to schedule it for everybody. Also if you want a taste of the road go to google maps and zip code 97828 to 83501 and you can kinda see, but that map does not do it justice

sounds cool but i dont like the extra miles on the car just for a cruise and gas in those rural areas are expensive

When? If I don't have to fight weather on the passes, I'm in.

Yeah. What he said! ^^^^

Depending on the day/time I would be hip to making that run.

So the road you speak of. Is it corkscrew rd? I've seen that in some of my references, and have been dying to come over and try it out.

yeah, it's the most curvacious (<- eh, I guess) road I've ever come across. It'll have to wait until probably mid-late spring due to the fact that they gravel the **** out of it in the winter, and while that might be the fastest way to the bottom of the canyon... probably not the safest. I was just seeing how many people would be interested, I have friends up there that I can send on scout runs every now and then to see how the roads are so I'll keep you all updated.

Keep us informed. I am in Wenatchee and would likely make the run down there.

Here's HWY 3 to Lewiston, google maps doesn't quite do it justice, but it runs for about 22miles or cornering.

And this is Hells Canyon Scenic Byway, it is a crazy *** road, last time I went through it I went to Hells Canyon Dam which is about 100miles of hardcore curves, only problem with that is it dead ends at the dam, which means you have to come all the way back (it's hot down there and after that 100m of cornering you get a little tired) there is another way that will lead you to Baker City which would be the optimal way to go, that way if we're up for it we can go back the way we came, or we could just get on the freeway and go somewhere to have a BBQ or something.

Hell Canyon sounds wonderful. My favorite strip of road is in N. CA and comes with a winding road sign with the words "NEXT 283 mi." Damn that was a GOOD day. Come to think of it, I think that road goes through "Hell's Gate" CA. If this is what the roads are like in Hell, I'll be damned, thank you. :D
