anyone else in the NW get their 'letter'

Ruby had her recall work done Friday. Honestly, she's a bit smoother across the powerband, and at idle, but still not slow-churned-butter smooth at idle. Aside from that, I'd be hard pressed to notice any differences in performance.

Regarding gas mileage after the recall work: I’ve gone through the “free” tank of gas that University Mazda gave me and a second tank. I’m getting basically the same mileage I was before. If anything it might be slightly better – but that’s kind of hard to say because I do drive it pretty hard most of the time. I get around 200 miles and then I’m looking for a gas station.

Got my notice quite awhile ago..but wanted to wait for all the kinnks to be worked out from the flood of owners going in for the recall....
Anybody had it down at Power Mazda in Salem, OR?? Impression?
Another question, although my car have never had a REAL issue with a hard start, there are some occasions that it took 3 seconds or so to start the engine..I peaked under the hood and noticed that battery that came with the car is not the upgraded 640CC (serial# on battery does not match the TSB)..should I request they change the battery while I get my recall? I don't want them to change the starter yet, since I would like to keep the stock one. Unless my car is having a harder issue than the 3 seconds of crank on an infrequent basis, having the extra umph during the morning would be re-assuring...comments? OH! My car died a couple of times during idle..should I be concern or will the new flash take care of this? It started back up, so..wasn't too concern..yet :p

Also i got that broken defrost botton and they havent heard of it as a common problem. Anyone here got the details where i can show them so they will fix it. Thank you

Got the recall work done today, great experience.
I went to Doug's Lynnwood Mazda/Hyundai/Hummer. Walked in and asked them what the recall work was for (even though I already knew, just wanted to make sure of what all they were going to do). They got to the catalytic converter part and I promptly said "I no longer have a cat." The service managers response was "Less work for us! No problem."
They gave me no hassle for having no cat, aftermarket exhaust, AEM CAI, underdrive pulleys, and etc etc etc. Was quite happy and a bit surprised about that (the cat part at least).
New flash, new plugs, compression check (all was good), checked all fluids, checked battery, checked brakes, filled my tank full of gas, washed my car, and vacuumed it out. Very pleased and thankful I had no issues.
It's funny because if I had gone to the dealership I bought my rx8 from I would've most likely been hassled without end about not having a cat. Guess I found my new dealership if I have any problems ever.

I've talked to him before about rx8 stuff and he is a moron. I had a printout of a TSB from a previous flash of what Mazda said the flash will do. At the time his response to me was "OH yah that flash isn't even needed, don't worry about it. It's only for people in hot climates, I technically don't even have to give it to you if you don't need it. But if you really want it just come in for an oil change sometime and you can have it done."
No idea where he got that from, and was a pretty big dick about it. Only good experience I've ever had at Lee Johnson is from the Mazda parts guy. He always cut my friend and I deals on rx7 parts.

Had my recall work done today at U. Mazda - I'm very happy! They rock
New flash, new plugs, compression check (all good), checked all fluids, checked battery, checked brakes, filled my tank with gas (darn only needed half a tank), and vacuumed it out (I asked for no wash).
They also painted my rusty hubs, and replaced the side airbag on the driver's side that gets all scratched up from the seatbelt bouncing off of it - there is no way to stop the scuffing though, I just need to be careful when I release the seatbelt and not let it fly backward. I was hoping they'd come up with a better fix by now - like some kind of slippery plastic film over it. It probably wouldn't be a problem if my seat weren't so far forward, but then I wouldn't be able to reach the clutch.
So - All that and it was ready WAY earlier than expected. (The only bummer was that I didn't get a CX-7 loaner, but a 3 was good enuf for free!)
It cracked me up... one of the guys says "Hey, if you like to go fast (wink, wink), you should think about having us install cold air intake - it makes a huge difference". They want $700 including parts and labor. Hmmmmm....
Thanks for all the recommendations to go to University Mazda, they were great!

One disclaimer to my earlier post...
On the hub rust and scratched seat back --- I asked them and had to push a tiny bit. I referenced the fact that Skinless had his hubs done a couple of months ago and I also referenced a TSB about the seat scratches.
Oh, and I told them that they were getting high praise from several people on the RX8 board who go to them on a regular basis, so they said "Well, we want to keep our customers happy!"
Darin: How much is the intake and how many beers (or whatever) would it cost me to have you help me install it? (And I have a feeling that Volney might want to do this mod also )

I suggest the Racing Beat Intake + cold Air duct. You can find them at mazdaparts.com - I think that's where i got mine. Prices vary, however.
If you drove down HERE, I'd help for FREE Same offer to Volney.
