Big *** scratch!! XP

So I was driving down 405 back to work this morning after getting my 15k service done. It's sunny, warm, and my 8's humming along nicely when suddenly some SUV passes me by and *CLUNK* it kicks up a huge *** rock and leaves a 4-5 inch scar right across my passenger door. It was one of those sounds where your stomach has that sinking feeling something bad happened. After getting into the parking garage I take a look at my worst suspicions are confirmed. It's just about down to the friggin' metal too. @(*UDG(*RU@#$!!!

I called around for estimates and got quotes between $300-$800.....of course just when I get some extra money in my checking account for once...*RAWR* I know no one's to blame for this but it doesn't get me any less pissed off. Thanks for listening.

P.S. Anyone know any good paint repair places in Bellevue/Redmond?

Do you have comprehensive on your insurance? It doesn't add that much and it's well worth it. The dent caused by the rock that was thrown at my car was almost $1400 to fix. $50 out of pocket for me and insurance paid the rest. Also, be careful about going to the lowest bidder. The big cost with mine was paint. To make it completely disappear he had to blend it forward from the rear quarter panel through the rear passenger door into the passenger door. It could have been fixed a lot cheaper but it would have been noticible.

Sorry to hear about the damage. I know how it feels.

It's bound to happen to us in Washington State - hell they use glacial till on the roads here! I say the frinkn' SUV needed mud flaps.

OK - do you feel better that I helped you rant?

I don't know why Washington pavement sucks so bad, but since I moved to Oregon 8 years ago I haven't had a single damaged windshield, not even a chip. In WA I was replacing them about every 2 years.

I'll put up some pics tonight, it's reeeeeeeeally obvious since I have titanium gray so the dark color really makes it stand out. Makes me cringe every time I look at it in the parking garage.

I have full coverage on my insurance, I might give them a call and see what can be done about it...I have a $250 deductible. The scratch is pretty deep so I'm guessing it's going to be beyond that...might call my agent and ask about it.

Yeah WA roads seem to really suck, I've had a couple very small rock chips here and there but I let them go because they're nearly invisible against the gray....this one just sucks.

Sorry to hear it jisoo! I had my 15K service done today too - at U Mazda. How about you?

There was another thread or 2 lately in the NW forum on good repair places on the Eastside. I remember 124spyder and proxi saying something about recent work done. Proxi was the most recent. I saw his car last weekend and you can't even tell anything happened. If I find the thread I'll send you the link...

Well I just got off the phone with my insurance company, I actually have a $100 deductible on my comprehensive so I just went ahead and filed a claim. Since it wasn't a collision it shouldn't affect my rates any. Conveniently there's an auto body shop affiated with them only 2 miles away from me, Kelly's Autobody in Bellevue. I'll be taking it over there to have the damage estimated today, anyone have any experience with them?

P.S. Nemesis your profile icon is awesome lol

Here's one recommendation from TheBri:
https://www.rx8club.com/nw-rx-8-forum-33/mad-props-queen-city-auto-rebuild-109694/

There's a bunch of ideas in this thread - the info I was thinking about from 124Spider (ha ha, you even posted here):
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...8&page=1&pp=15

Here's the one with Proxi's info:

Hehe yeah I saw that I've posted a couple times in some of those threads...nothing terribly helpful on my part XD I'm finding some positive reviews from a couple people at work regarding Kelly's, so it's looking pretty ok so far.

Man, only 15K miles. How do you manage. I drive way more than that in one year (and my commute has been as short as from my bed to my desk, and as long as 15 minutes on surface streets (and behaving). Sorry to hear about the scratch. There's a lot of vehicles running around with inadequate debris prevention.

With the size of that rock coming at me, I would've needed the plastic bubble the Pope uses to roll around the public in. Nearly soiled myself when I heard that grotesquely loud clunk. I do have 3M clear cloating on my car, but it only covers the front bumper, grill, side mirrors, and door edges. This sucker just smacked me right in the middle of my passenger door....bah...

I'm rather lucky in terms of driving miles....only 6 mile round trip between work and home. I live right near the Crossroads mall so I just walk over for groceries, video rentals, movie theater, sports goods, electronics...etc, etc. I hardly have to drive for anything except for gas

Looks like it's going to be a significant amount of work, part of the scratch goes all the way into the metal so both the passenger side front and rear doors will need to be repainted. Good times. At least I get a rental car from my insurance until it's done. Yay for Geo Metros One more estimate on Monday morning then the work starts...probably Kelly's Autobody or BelRed Autobody.

On the plus side I found a place that will fix the curb rash I have on one of my wheels...Dave's Custom Cars off NE 20th in Bellevue. Cost is about $100.

How bad is your curb rash? I'm looking for a place to fix mine too. Between me and the guys who mounted my all seasons, there are a ton of dings.

Mine cover about 1/3rd around one of my wheels off and on and are pretty decently deep and wide (1/2 to 3/4 inches wide in a couple of spots). Tim at Dave's Custom Cars looked at it and said no problem.

OK, thanks. Sounds sort of similar to mine (I really messed up one wheel), but there are some good gouges on each wheel from the tire mounting machine.

Let me know how it goes and maybe I'll go there too. It just kills me to see all the scrapes on wheels that cost $460 each (oem).

Aren't the prices on these heavy cast OEM buggers absurd? I'm planning on keeping these for rain tires when I upgrade this summer.

OEM price is ridiculous, but you can pick up a used set pretty cheap. Usually $400 for a nice set. I got a set of curbed stockers for my track tires for $250 shipped. They don't even really look that bad.

You should check out Tim Foster at Dependable Wheel Repair in Renton. He does great work with excellent customer service. He repaired a bent rim on my son's RX-7 and threw in fixing the curb rash for free. It looked like new when Tim was done with it.

true

dependable wheel repair in renton is awesome. they just fixed two of my wheels that were bent (one was even cracked..) but I didn't look into cleaning up curb rash on the stocks.

where do you guys go for mount/dismount tires? les schwab was saying 40 per and tim at dependable was 25 per. is there someone better or cheaper?
