BSCC Autocross Season
#101
I signed up for the SCCA event this Sunday May 3rd in Packwood. Normally the SCCA events are in Bremerton, but they'll hold a couple events in Packwood, I guess to change it up. I'm excited to try AutoX in a different setting. Got to:

Hope to see you all there and hopefully without needing rain gear

Great I'll see you there. I wish I can race in the morning. The next event on the 17th, B Stock is in the morning so I'll be able to race then and TO in the PM. (That will be if I can get the day off from work.)

I just got back from the event in Packwood. That is a cool place for autox. It's in a huge empty lot and it's almost like a mini road course. There is another SCCA event there in two weeks on the 17th. If you can make it I really recommend it. The AM got 5 runs and the PM only 4. It turned out to be great weather.
I got magnetic numbers for my car for this event (though I didn't get the speed increase I was hoping to get from them(I came in last in my class)) I got them from soloracer.com It took two weeks from the time I ordered for them to get here.

Alright, so all of my pictures are here: http://pics.dpsubs.org/Packwood_5-3-2009/
So highlights from the day:
-9 Runs for the day
-A State trooper rode with a vette in the morning. He told the vette driver he was going too slow.
-5 RX-8's!
-WTF the pass that's fastest to get there is still closed for snow.
-The pit is inside a warehouse
-#1 Reason Packwood sucks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u__ojyIBc_A
Yah he's absurdly fast:
Full morning grid. That's both groups:
This guy wins... Yes, that's a roll bar an yes, his interior is stripped
Don't **** with the local PD:

Is anyone interested in ProSolo? http://www.nwr-scca.org/solo/ProRules.htm
The guy with the white GTR hit me up in email at work today about it. They setup 2 parallel courses that mirror each other and 2 cars race side by side from a drag tree start. You get 4 runs on each side. Scoring is based on PAX Indexed times, so they're scaled to allow competition between all cars. They all take place at Packwood and the first one is in 2 weeks, on Saturday the 16th. These are the events that are scored tournament style that lead to the national events.
Seems like a good way to get an erectile disfunction though... doing a drag start next to that Exige on R-comps or something... Still, it sounds like it could be really cool, especially if we got a group to go and get paired up...

Not much else going on until Memorial Day weekend, when there's a ton of stuff.
#114
There's another SCCA autocross event at Packwood the next day, on the 17th. I'm tempted to try and do both days... but that would be an expensive weekend, like $150 in gas and entry fees alone. I'm at the end of my weekend memberships counting towards the full membership too, I might need to break down and get an SCCA membership...

We's been kicked out of Stock class. And by we I really mean Brad and I, CAI's kick you out along with a bunch of other stuff. But Chris was right, changing the wheel size kicks you out of stock: http://cms.scca.com/documents/Solo_R...Solo_Rules.pdf [This ****** is 346 pages, btw]
Guess I have 0 excuses not to get a CAI now. Interesting note though, changing your exhaust behind the Cat is allowed in Stock as well, but high-flow or non-OEM Cats are NOT. Fully adjustable coil overs are allowed too... but only if you remove all but 2 of the adjustment *****.
Front Sway bars can be modified/replaced in any way however rear sway bars can't be touched. At all.
Turns out though that the ignition coils are allowed in Stock:
Edit: Ha! None of you guys with your 18x9.5's can run STX, you all have to run STU:

The coils maybe legal but I don't think the bracket and plug and play harness are. The way the rules are written is unless it says you can do it you can't. And you cant do an illegal mod in order to do a legal mod. This should remove all gray area's but it doesn't because different people interpret things differently. And there are ways to deal with this, you can write to the rules comity for clarification or you can protest some one at an event, however I've never seen a protest at a local event in the 5-6 years I've been doing this, but they do happen from time to time at national events. There are no provisions for the mounting bracket or wire harness, your only hope would that these would be considered part of the coils but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be. If the coils mounted to the factory mount and plugged directly into the factory harness it wouldn't be an issue.
If any of you guys need help figuring out what class you can run let me know all the mods you've done, even the small ones that you don't think would make a difference. And I'll help you figure out what class or classes you fit into.
I see you guys found the ProSolo next weekend. There's two regional prosolo's and one national prosolo events this year. Both the regional events are on the Saturday before an autoX event. The national prosolo event is a two day event. I didn't do any of the prosolo's last year, but I did one regional and the national one two years ago. They are fun and worth experiencing, personally I'd rather either go drag racing or autoxing. But as of right know I do plan on going this Saturday, I'll be there for sure Sunday.

Coil overs are not allowed in stock. Shocks only, springs also must be stock, no alternate springs of any form. In addition to only having two adjustment *****. They must be +/- 1 inch in length, the spring perch must be stock or same size and shape, and the spring perch must be located at the same location relative to the lower shock mount, meaning no ride height changes allowed.

I definitely want to go Sunday but I'm still a little torn on Saturday... but I'm leaning towards doing both days. I'm tempted to stay out there Saturday night but there doesn't really seem like ANYTHING to do out there.

What's a CAI??
"My car now sports cone marks, nay, Battle Scars!" :
Well now my car sports curb scars I need to go have the concrete removed from the bead and the rim. Hopefully there isn't any damage to the tire. I was having fun and took a right hand turn too tight and kissed the curb pretty good.

Did you get a chance to look under Mike's hood at Packwood?... I'm with Brad, we need to start prefacing people's names with the color of their car (Black Sean, Red Sean, Black Mike, Silver Mike).
You should've seen my stock wheels. A minivan ran me into a curb at 30mph the 3rd or 4th week I had the car. And then there was the time I got stuck up against a curb during the Snowpacalypse... I'm wicked paranoid about keeping my RPF1's clean though. I was taking the turns wide in the garage under Lincoln Center last weekend and my friend in the car said something like "You drive funny" and I had to explain I didn't want my rims anywhere near the concrete curbs around the turns there...

Mine was pure stupidity. I wanted to take the turn hard and close and I turned a second too soon @ 40MPH.

Rear
Discount Tire fixed the tires for free and they didn't see any damage. I then took it and had an alignment done, No damage, but it was off just a little.
More than a 2 second penalty haha
Got lucky this time.
