Crappy RX-8 Week Continues...
So to top off the crappy week I've been having with my car, some idiot decides they need to run into my parked RX-8. Rear bumper cover is destroyed and so is the exhaust surround. I can't tell if the actual muffler is bent yet, but considering the amount that the stuff around is pushed in, it's probably not in it's original location either. They somehow made contact with the tail light as well, but luckily it's fitment looks ok still. So friggin pissed off right now.

Yeah, I really don't care that much about coming out positive. I just want this thing fixed right and I already know I'll be too OCD about it to have it fixed. If they have to blend any part of the 3/4 panel, I will be pissed beyond all belief. When ever they do that you risk the rest of the car getting covered in micro sized overspray and is never nearly as smooth as it used to be. This happend to a car that my parents owned where they had to re do the rear bumper and trunk. I could never figure out why the rear 1/3 of the car was smoother than the rest.
This is not to mention that they'll never get it to match exactly ever again. Metallic paints are damn near impossible to get to look factory. I'm going white car hunting, if I find one with red on it at about my hip height...

Hey Rawr, Did you ever get that 50 cal? If you did, does it have a scope? And how well do you think it can be aimed out of a third floor window? I just want to camp at my window until I see a white car with red scuffs on it.

I got a 6.8mm that will do the job. (until I too get a 50 cal lol)

You do have a sun roof. Get a driver and you can set up a MG mount and drive around.
So sorry to hear it.
When you get it fixed tell the shop about your concerns of overspray, I'm sure they can cover the rest of the car. I think if they know you'll be looking they'll do a better job. (probably not but it'll be worth the try)

Sorry for making you guys paranoid. I have talked to insurance, they are going to have their appraiser look at it. I'm going to look up the retail on all the parts so they don't try to stuff me with non OE.
I hope I get to choose the shop too because I may have a good place to go that might work with my OCD concerns.

Yor insurance will more than likely twll you where you can take it, but just tell them you would rather go to your own shop and they shoud let you. I have all 3 times I have had my cars worked on.

wow that sucks! You need to not worry about the OCD concerns, that's whats going to get your car fixed the way you want (that doesn't mean be a dick because then you lose your ground) but for the money we paid for these cars you deserve to get it back to how it was. I think it's law that you're able to go where you want. I believe you get it appraised where you'd like to go and then the ins co will approve or deny the amount. Good luck, and you have every right to be OCD. I think all of us on this sight are, which is why we are all here.

You are right for most insurance companies except Geico. They make you take it to one of their "approved" shops and they cut the check to the shop after the work is done, not to you personally. I know this cause a couple years back, my gf's dad backed into my Cougar and he had Geico.

The first time I took it to a different shop they cut the check to the shop. It just took a little longer because they had to send out an adjuster to look at it instead of just whatever the shop said it needed.
