ECU Management
Since we are kind of limited to who can tune an rx8 up here in northern washington state, I figured I would ask what ECU you guys would recommend? I see quite a bit of people switching over to the COBB Accessport, but there is still the greddy, etc.

Cobb is the only one that can change the car ECU.
The Greddy and Int-x are separate piggyback units. If you buy the Cobb fom MazdaManiac he will support you by building maps for you and has many NA and turbo combinations already set up.

efidude also works ............ but if you go with options and ease of use .... cobb wins ..
efi dude -- 300 ish
cobb -- 800 ish i believe
Personally im saving up for the cobb
also I hear mm's maps are nice............ tuning usually costs around 300- 500 dollars per map

+1 for reflashing stock ecu
+100 for cobb.
Just plugged mine in yesterday and it's so easy it's not funny. A bit of velcro, a relocated ODBII plug, and I'll be golden... well... at least silver... maybe bronze.

If you can find someone who knows the rotary (and the RX8 in particular) and has the necessary licenses and software to work with your chosen EMS, great. MM is a good resource because he has so many pre-existing maps available and includes what you need for a near custom tune in the price of the AP. If you go the Cobb route, buy the unit from MM so you'll have something to work with when the package arrives. If you want to be more aggressive or do something else bizarre, you can then find someone local (maybe).

Semantically speaking, for there to have been "a few misleading/incorrect posts" one would have to assume that every post save those from the OP was misleading/incorrect.
Okay, maybe my claim of being similar to a semi-precious metal is bit far-fetched, but...
The scarcity of re-flash options was correted by a subsequent post.
EFIDude certainly has lots of flexibility.
Everything else is opinion, and where possible supported by facts (or at least fact-lets).

For example:
cobb -- 800 ish i believe
I hear mm's maps are nice............ tuning usually costs around 300- 500 dollars per map
now is MM the only person that can really tune the COBB and have it maintain its reliability?
EFIDude certainly has lots of flexibility.
