Feeler: RX-8 day at Bremerton, anyone?

So I talked with TJ at the end of the BSCC practice day today and on a weekday it's a LOT cheaper to setup an event at Bremerton than I thought it would be. $300 to rent the track, $250-300 for getting insurance as an unknown club for a single event, $75 to rent BSCC's cones for the day. The next trick is timing, TJ didn't know how much they asked to rent the timing equipment, but in order to do that, we'd need to convince one of the more official/senior/important/trusted BSCC members to attend and look after the equipment. So assuming, that that totals around another $100, it's ~$775 for the day.

So, thoughts? Think we could get enough people interested to make it worth while?

If we hit 10 people down for a week day or 15 combined for a weekend, I'll move forward and get quotes and dates. For the time being, let's stick to RX-8 club members only. Once we have enough people, we'll figure out handling guests and talk about non-RX-8 club owners.

  • Sanderson Field: ???/Day
    • Mail sent to NWR SCCA to see if they'd be willing to rent

You think we could do this on a weekend? or is it only open durring the week. I am down if we can do a weekend around $75.

We could do a weekend... next year. And it would cost more and we'd need more people to get it to $75, I think it's >$1000 for the day for the track instead of $300. Also, the weekend schedules for the summer are settled in like October of the preceding year. We'd also be really far down on the totem pole for being able to select them and there's no guarantee we could even get a summer weekend at all.

That much tire destruction for that price? I would take a day off for that. I might be driving a really ghetto Miata though instead of my 8.

So I was just thinking on the way home that there are a couple other sites I can look into for possible weekend runs. I'm willing to bet Packwood is full for the summer but I wonder if Shelton might still have a weekend available in August or September. I don't know about pricing at those places but it can't be as high as Bremerton, so I'll look into it.

It would be nice to stick it to the BMW, Porsche, Ferrari club guys and have a Mazda club event. Mazda is afterall the "zoom zoom" brand.

Let's keep it low key for now... even if people help out, coordinating an event of more than 20 or so people will be a pain in the *** and then you end up with people you don't have a chain of trust for (can you tell I'm in software security?) and don't know if they'll do something dumb.

I sent an email to the Port Authority of Shelton who runs the airport. If they don't reply in a day or 2 I'll use my work address for that extra weight

I'd be interested in doing a day at Bremerton depending when it is. I'm think we could easily get 20 people if it's not just RX-8's.

Personally pay the little extra money and get 10 people. Less drama involved, less having to make sure everyones under control.

If it happens to be a weekend than I could do it. Other wise im out until after Nov 7 when my sick leave/vacation reups.

I'm inclined to agree with you about the smaller group, but that still means 8 other people need to be willing to pay the higher price.

That sucks about the weekend thing, hopefully Shelton comes back with some weekend time available. It's a longer drive but Mike (Arrrrrx-8) said it's a better place to go normally anyway (though I think he said that was due to smaller crowds?).

Well My vote is for a smaller crowd and weekends if possible, but if it is only possible to keep it around 75-100 a person is during the week I could always use a sick day.

We can't keep the low price, small crowd and do it on the weekend. From what he said it is 3 times as much for weekends.

the good thing about bremerton is that we know all the people. we'd be able to convince people to let us use cones, timing, etc. without much hassle

Yah, there's that factor too. I don't know if BSCC would let us move their cones somewhere else and even if they did, we'd have to go to Bremerton the night before and get let in, fill everyone's trunks with cones, then drive them to Shelton. Plus, I have no idea where the BSCC timing trailer lives but towing it around sounds less than fun, so the closer it is to "home" the more likely we'd be able to convince someone to tow it there. I think Shelton might be close enough for that though.

Skinless linked me to a pretty cheap timing setup used for Karting though in PM, would people be willing to chip in for such a thing? We'd split the cost of the beacons evenly then everyone would need to buy their own transponder. It would be a one time, maybe $100-200 per person cost but after that, we could setup timing anywhere.

Well that settles that then. I have no idea if NWR SCCA will rent out theirs but I kind of doubt it, they just spent a lot of money on some bitchin wireless timing lights.

I also realized we may or may not need to provide all our own helmets, especially if we do Shelton instead of Bremerton. We should have enough to go around for an AutoX style event if we get a few people without their own but not enough for lapping.

Its your own event you can opt not to even use helmets.
