Ok, if we hit 10 people down for a week day or 15 combined for a weekend, I'll move forward and get quotes and dates. For the time being, let's stick to RX-8 club members only. Once we have enough people, we'll figure out handling guests and talk about non-RX-8 club owners. Adding a list to the op, we're at 6 for a weekday and 1 for a weekend.

Well, I checked my mail and I heard back from Shelton. It's cheaper to rent, but I think it's going to be more expensive to insure. I think... we may need to form our own club in order to use their fascility that gets insured independently of the event. We may need to with Bremerton as well. I'll send a bunch more emails when I get home tonight and get more details from Bremerton as well.

This sounds like a lot of fun but I'm just too far away (250 miles) to be able to say I will participate. But I will be following this thread and if you get this worked out I may try and make the trip anyway.

Bad news, looks like there's a base premium to initiate an insurance policy for a club. For K&K, the company both BSCC and NWR-SCCA use, it's $1500. All event and per-member fees are drawn from this base fee first, so in order to make the policy worth while, you need to do ~5 events per policy period (1yr I believe, still reading up on it). I sent them mail asking for a recommendation for a "very small club" of <30 members, but based on what's on their website it looks like the base $1500 is unavoidable.
In addition to that, I got a response back from the Shelton Port Authority. It's $265/day for their inactive runway however they mentioned the "club" needing to be registered with the State. I'm looking into that as well.

The equation we want is something like $1500 - ($5 x # of members) - ($250 x # of events) = 0. We need to manipulate the 2 (Members and events) to balance out that $1500 premium. The $250 isn't a firm number yet, it's not listed in K&K's online info however that's what TJ quoted me as BSCC's cost per event in insurance, so it should be in the right ballpark.

There's a reason why when you stick one on a dyno it makes 76 hp. Yet a Honda from the same era advertized for 8 less hp with the same displacement with no VTEC makes 100 hp and gets just under 3 extra mpg. I averaged 26.76 mpg with the Miata over two years and 29.49 with the CRX. I have a gas log and a maint log (in excel), so you can't say I was neglecting the Miata.
I have a million gripes about the general public perception of a Miata vs say a Honda Si of some sorts. I've lived with both of them for a long time and both have their virtues, but overall the Honda is a better car.
With that said, they're a lot cheaper to burn tires on a Miata than an RX-8 or 7. That and I have the appropriate tires to burn on the Miata already. And I'm totally diverging from the topic at hand so I will stop now.
A 10 person AutoX event will be just too awesome. I can't imagine the amount of seat time. 10 people vs 170 people in one day... wow... just wow...

They're only imitating the people they look up with what limited funds they have. Most look up to the JDM posers on the forums, so that is why they end up with soshinoya badges and retarded mods. So if you help them and they look up to you they will follow the right path.

One last thing and I'm done working on this for the night. The insurance takes up to 30 days to go through, so we're going to have to plan this well in advance. Looking at the Bremerton schedule, if we decide on doing it there, it's going to have to be the first week of September. Sanderson field on the other hand is available a lot, but it's going to take a lot more work to use that site.

lol, just get everyone to petition TJ to run another event? Half the people who said they wanted to go aren't BSCC members (and it's a little late in the season for that to be worth it, no?). Also, they need 20 people @ $30 to make it worth it, per TJ.

I'll reply back to TJ and see what he says. What are you doing August 4th? It's a Tuesday night but what TJ had said in his last email was just to rent the timing equipment we'd want to go to the club meeting and ask the board. I'll send them email too though.

There's a practice day Saturday, August 15th at Packwood. I'm planning on showing up with new coilovers for that one but it's SCCA, not BSCC so it might be more expensive and crowded since it's a weekend. The more I think about it the more I think you're right Mike. I sent another email to TJ and I'll likely pose the question to the board in email later today. I'd very much be up to a practice once a month honestly, and we can always coordinate here to show up with 10 RX-8's
And yes, the 4th is the board meeting.
