Ha!
Apparently someone saw my post and is flying up tomorrow from California to look at my car. Hmmmm. Sounded to good to be true until all his backstory panned out. Looked him up on my own on Facebook and his college graduation from u of o.
Either it's the most elaborate hoax ever or someone with far more money than I have.
At least it a face to face meeting and not some "ship your car to x location"
Anyone had experience in this or advice? I used to work in banking so I know roughly how to keep myself safe.

If he's meeting you in person I'd say you should be ok... hell, I drove over to Spokane (4 hr drive) the same morning we saw the ad for the FD and drove her home that afternoon. But of course, still be wary and don't let him test drive alone.

Well then... Had an interesting day...
So I pick him up at the airport. Nice fellow everything good so far.
We take it to get a compression test which he pays for.
Car fails compression test.
Wait what?
yeah reported a 660 on both rotors.
They ran a warranty covered no start bulletin to try and fix it. Which got it up to 687 and 713 depending on the rotor (which he told me at first 680 was the min spec but then even after reaching 680 (barely) he again told me I needed a new engine.)
So long story short They are applying for a warranty and hoping it just sails through
Apparently he said that if it doesn't just sail through I have to provide oil change records (I do my own so uh how could they prove it was my car the oil went into...)
Anyway but he said that if Mazda see's any synthetic oil they will auto decline...
Once again wait. What?
All that I'm aware that has ever been put in that car is royal purple which according to the mazda owners manual that I read religiously when I bought the car fits all of their requirements for warranty. (I've since heard that they updated the manual in later years but my manual says nothing of the sort) Mine doesn't even say the words synthetic or conventional anywhere in it.
So It'll either get a new engine under warranty, or I'll have to sell it with a min spec report on compression.
What's crazy is I have no CEL, and no loss of power anywhere on the RPM range that I can perceive. But I bring it there and they tell me my car is basically failing apart... When I went in there I was worried about the guy I was picking up and had no worries about the car. Now I'm worried about my car and I know the California guy is normal.
Just a really really weird day...
Anyone have any experience with Herzog Meier out of beaverton?

Well if it gets a new engine he wants to fly up and buy it. He looked at the actual car today and said that they would have to figure in every rock chip into the price of the car.
With a new engine in there... I don't think I have any real reason to budge in price. This car is meant to be driven it's not necessarily a show car. I'm sure with a fresh engine it'll perk even more interest. So I'll have to ask him what they plan offering and basically say no if they try and knock more the price down.
I mean run the price of that parts list lol. So we will see. He'll either pay the asking price and get it.... Or he won't and Kari can look at it. And if she doesn't want it I call back craigslist people.
Not too worried about getting it sold. There was plenty of interest (albeit lots of people thinking they had more money than they had) but still there were solid offers to be had.

5 years ago we did monthly drives o over Washington State, for 3 years in a round.
For the past 2 years, its been one here and there, you just have to keep your eyes open for them!
