Helllppp!!!!!

 My RX8 just did something that really scared me and I need to know how to fix it!

So earlier today it was misfiring or something around 5000rpms, the power would just drop like you were shifting or something and then pick back up but it shouldn't be doing that.

Then just now as I'm driving home coasting down a hill the engine decides to shut off, I started it back up but now there's a strange ticking sound coming from the engine that I don't remember being there before.

Did the engine just blow up? That's ok because it's still under warranty  But if not then what is wrong with my baby?

It's a 2004 GT and all of the plugs coils and wires were replaced about 40k miles ago, but how would that cause the car to just shut off?? (I'm not extremely knowledgable about the car yet, just starting.)

I am on my second engine, my rx8 is an 04 gt and I felt a big power lose and check engine light come on and after that the car was fine . It did this to me twice, took it in and i got an new engine a week later around 43000 miles, am at 60000 mile and running strong now!!!

So what exactly causes that power loss? The mazda dealer here is awful and when I take it in and say the engine is toast they won't believe me unless I have very specific details.

what year, how many miles?

you need to take it in for a compression test. ask for the specifically and say it's down on power. make sure they give you the report afterwords and we can tell you what's up.

^ what dondo said. You need to specifically say, "I have no power" The compression test must be reported at a certain RPM also, for each rotor, if you get one. Could be cat, but shutting off me thinks it has given up it's ghost....

Ugh unfortunately the engine is fine, had the compression test done and it thoroughly checked out, everything was in great shape except it needs new valves which of course are not covered by the warranty

Oh well, I still have a few months for the engine to blow

Oh and it's an '04 with 85k. It's in great shape except the stupid valves :P

The valves are cleanable.

Dirty valves aren't the problem, they actually aren't working right. There was a service report put out for this issue by Mazda and I took a look at it, it's legit.

My records are in the car which is is the garage at the moment, but the general numbers were 8.9 with one or two 8.7 for the compression test
