Just got my car 04 8 back from UMazda after the 15k service. Back in Dec. the car was in and I spoke to them about the hub rust problem and they said "let's take care of it after the winter". Of course that service tech no longer works there. Now they say there is nothing they can do. Mazda has nothing listed about the problem. I asked them to do a "ESI" search to reveal the "MRI" about it and they looked at me like I was nuts. They had no idea what those acronyms stood for. Has anyone had any luck in getting this repair done under warranty at any Northwest dealers? Thanks.

I haven't tried it. My hubs are too bad yet.
Maybe try quoting it by its number: Mazda Repair Information 0003559.
Or maybe print out https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...73&postcount=6 and give it to them.

Hell I've seen it many times before on a lot of differen't cars. I am not too worried about it. They are brake rotors. But if you're really concerned, you can hit them with some high temp Rust-Oleum 7716 High Heat Silver yourself. I know what your thinking, but with a Scotchbrite Pad, some Simple Green, a good rinse, and a couple cans of Rust-Oleum you can get your rotors clean and rust free for a long long time.
Used Rust-oleum on an engine back in the day, and it worked great.

Hey all,
We bought our RX-8 in Feb 06, in March we took the car in for squeeky brakes, the tech told me there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) that Mazda put out for the rust on the rotors and calipars. With the 18" rims you can really see it. Just tell the service writer to look up the tsb or have a tech do it. After all the cars are under a 4 yr 50k warrenty right!!!! Take it from a auto mechanic use the heck out of the warrenty.

Hey on the hub rust, I talked to the dealer I goto, Miliam Mazda in Puyallup, they paint the rotors and backing plates at no charge as part of a customer satisfaction policy they have. You might as yours if they do the same thing. If not check out Miliam Mazda.

After I bought my car in April I took it back to the dealership (Auburn Mazda) and asked them if there was anything they could do to prevent the rust problem. They said sure, and when I got the car back they said it had been taken care of. All they had done was brush off a little of the rust that was there, even though I told them I was looking for preventative measures (painting) rather than just cleaning the small amount of existing rust.
Anyway, I called University Mazda last week and talked to a service person there. He said the hub rust issue was something that wasn't normally covered, but he offered to call the factory to see if they would cover it for me. He called back at the end of the week and said that Mazda had agreed to pay to have them clean the rust off and paint the hubs. I took the car in Tuesday night and picked it up Wednesday evening. They did a great job on the hubs and did a full inspection while they had the car. I'll be taking my car to them for future service.
