i know it's easter but... drive this sunday?
i know exactly where. some of us 7 fellas and a couple nopistons guys did it a couple summers ago and it worked out well.
the route = past granite falls to monte cristo and turn around when the pavement ends.
that is if the weather is nice (ie sunny and warmer than 50f).
let's tenatively plan for:
Day: Sunday April 11, 2004
Place: Lake Stevens Safeway Parking Lot (last time we met near the SW corner), then on to granite falls where we can re-group, then up the road for some drivin'
Time: 11:00am, we'll hang around until it's obvious nobody else is showing up (usually about a half hour to 40 minutes)
the route should last just a couple hours. it's about 40 miles up to monte cristo and 40 miles back. there are a couple spots on the way where the speed limit drops to 35, but most of the way has a 55mph speed limit on a 2-lane highway. it's all up in the baker/snoqualmie forest, so cops are rare. not sure if the rangers do much (if any) pulling over.
all-in-all it's a pretty easy drive with nice scenery and a reasonable amount of twisties, especially in the last 10 miles.
anyone interested?
i gotta throw down a warning ... there's a patch, a couple hundred feet long, of road that will either be paved or not. last time i drove up there, it WAS paved, but i've been up there and it wasn't. it's called the sinkhole. but like i said. just a ocuple hundred feet long.
