Arrow July Drive. Where to?

Since July starts on Saturday, I thought we should figure out where and when.

The last couple of get togethers have been in the north end (Lynnwood and Whidbey Is.) so it's time for a South End run. The drive/BBQ thing worked out really well last time, so I suggest we reuse the formula.

My list for the South Sound area is embarassingly short. Suggestions I have are:
- Chinook Pass (not as much fun as one might expect)
- Swift Water Corridor
- Mt Adams
- Mt Raineer (I ran Skate Cr Rd last year, tons of fun, but poor Qlt Pavement and not much sunny BBQ space, if any)
- White Pass

I believe Windy Ridge was suggested, but I'm actually not familiar with that run, and it's not in my books.

Please post up if you have any other suggestions. As soon as we chose a run, I'll start on the maps and directions.

Windy ridge is on the east side of St Helens, so more of a Portland area run. Just went with a mixed group of cars (mostly Evos and WRXs) on the 24th. It was a blast, would love to do it with some more RX-8s though.

hey whats up.

ive done a bunch of runs in the southern wash and northern oregon area. i was also on the run for the 24th that Aipex8 was refering too. It was a lot of fun and that was the 4th time ive made the same trip. if you guys are looking to do a nice drive and then stop for a while and do some picnic / bbq type of thing. then i know of a great spot. Lower Falls on the northern end of the Lewis river. its super easy to get to and takes a nice 2 hours or so. so you will have a good drive out there and plenty of nice curvy roads. the falls area is a small park with a nice place to park cars and trails you can walk around on and the actual ruver is a huge open area that you can walk out onto overlooking a really nice 45ft waterfall and swimming area.

here is a link with some really nice pics of the whole place... scroll down a little ways to find Lower Lewis River Falls.

http://www.lewisriver.com/falls.html

and also since the weather will be hot this is a great place to hang out and go for a swim.

anyway if this sounds good let me know and ill get some detailed maps posted.

Thanks,
chris

That sounds like a great possibility but I think that the original idea was something in the sound sound area. However, if no one can come up with anything closer, I am up for the drive.

Ryan, Is there a day on the weekend that usually works better for you?

Are you thinking the weekend of July 22/23 or 29/30? If 22/23, I can only make it on the 23rd. The 29/30 works both days.

When we here back from Ryan we'll know the day. I was thinking South Sound, maybe Bremerton to Tahuya (http://washington.destinationhighway...ound/32sum.htm) or 101 along the West side of Hood Canal. Just another couple of suggestions. But I'm open to going further south if the rest of the crew is.

I must have been readin' your mind today, as I was looking at the map in those areas too... The route on the link you sent does sound pretty twisty though... Where is Tahuya? Parks/sites for BBQing?

You'll have to catch everyone on the next cruise. Even if it's a group drive of 1 car, I'm doing a July 23 run.

Tahuya is smack dab in the middle of the souther bend of Hood Canal.

I'm headng down to vancouver for that run this evening, so I'll do some reserch and post up parks or whatnot on Sunday or Monday.

LOL... I'm sure there'll be more than 1...

Thx, I'll look at a map again.

Have a great run, let us know how it went! Sounds good, thanks Kristopher!

July Drive

I'm in. Looking forward to the drive and meeting you folks.

I live in the South Sound. Did a ride last summer with the NW Classics ( Mostly great, older GTOs) that started in Orting, headed into Graham the up to the pass in Mt Rainer. The ride ended in Enamclaw. Most of the nice roads where in the valley, but the mountain roads we fun to drive and sightsee. Just another idea for the group to consider.

I will join the July drive to any location and have room for 1 rider if that helps anyone.

The run yesterday was great. There were more than 20 cars (4 RX-8s and a bunch of 350Zs, plus serveral more). Of course, with the run out to Long Beach, the couple hours there, and the run along the Oregon side of the river back to Longview, I didn't get home 'till almost 11 last night. Since I camped Friday, I was up and awake shortly after first light, making it a very long day.

Back to the topic at hand: The only park I found along the Gorst (Bremerton) - Tahuya route is Belfair State Park (http://www.parks.wa.gov/parkpage.asp...lfair&pageno=1). "The park has two sheltered and 130 unsheltered picnic tables." It's on the return leg of the route in Destination Highways so we either stick to the route and have a later lunch, or reverse the route for an earlier one.

North End-West siders may want to meet on this side of the sound and Ferry over together. With gas and time, that's usually a better option than the Narrows, at least from Redmond.

I haven't had a chance to plug the route in and get drive times, but I'll do that in the next day or two. Do we want to shoot for a noon/1 o' clock lunch again?

Well this sounds like it would be a great run. I just need the dates. I am in Gig Harbor so I am up for this on for sure. Just have to make sure I dont have Reserves that weekend, or gone camping like I will be this coming weekend. Would be great to meet up with kristopher again. Worst case make a run to Hurican Ridge. That I am sure would be a blast just a long drive. Then again that is what these cars are made for is driving. I might be able to have a few friends from work try and make it. An 04 Cobra and I think an 04 Sentra R with a lot of mods to it. I will keep checking to see how this all comes together.
Later, Allen

July 23, 10:30 (leaving around 11:00) , there's a park just north of Bremerton that looks promissing as a meeting place. I'll post more details this afternoon.
