July TWR Drive - 29th
TWR Freedom Run 2007 Details available here.
After quite a bit of searching, I have to admit defeat. There doesn't seem to be a route over Snoqualmie pass suitable for sports cars without spening a lot of time on I-90. So instead, we're going a bit further south. The plan is to loop around Mt Rainier. 410 may have a bit more traffic than we'd generally prefer, but the route is an enjoyable one none the less. In addition, the side roads I have planned for the south side of the mountain are usually pretty empty, and definitely make for a lot of fun.
As usual, this is a family friendly event, and so long as you love to drive, all cars are welcome.
We'll be meeting at 10 and rolling at 11.

Well, more research and planning mean the route isn't quite a loop around the Mountain. Instead, we'll make the trip up to Paradise for a BBQ/Picnic before looping back around and returning back the way we came. This does make it the longest route to date for us, but Speed Limits are generally higher, and some of the roads are genuine treasures, so it'll be a good time none the less. The directions are posted, and I'll have an overview map up this evening.

Hey Kris. Jen and I are coming in the 3 with my Mom as well.
I can bring burgers and buns. How many people should I plan on?

Well, my mom just asked to tag along on this one , so now the only "Driver" left in my family who wont have been on one of these will be my little brother. I keep trying to get him to bring his Firebird out to play, but so far, no dice.

I just realized, there is a $15/car park entrance fee charged by the National Parks Service. http://www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisi...servations.htm I believe this is collected as you pull onto Paradise Road, but I'm not certain. I'll check for alternate picnic sites in case we decide this is too much.

Hey I think I'll be in your general area as well! Though I'll be on my bicycle with some others, while you are in your RX-8s.
Starting near Elbe, we will be climbing toward Paradise (for a Skate Creek loop), afterwards descending Stevens Canyon Rd. We'll be on 123 & 12 to get us to Packwood for 52 Skate Creek Rd, returning to Elbe via 706. Sound like your route?
If I see any RX-8s I'll wave or something. Does anyone know if there is a type of restaurant/food store at Paradise? When we where at Sunrise a few weeks ago, there was a good burger joint!
See some of you there maybe, try to watch out for the bicyclists as well =)

Hey, leave the bicycle at home and join us. There's the Paradise Lodge and the Visitor's Center. I'm sure they'll sell you expensive food. If you get to Paradise in time, you might have another option.

Nice pics Anibal! Here are mine...
Stopped for lunch in Mt. Rainier State Park:
The foggy mountains:
Huddled around the BBQs:
Most of the gang:
Tinkerbell - "Wow, that's a long drop!"
Those are the best ones!

Lame Patrick....
We had dirty cars in our midst, so you have to come up with another excuse or just show up! Check out Kristopher's website - The-Winding-Road. There are 2 drives in August.

Thanks Kristopher for another great drive! Anibal and Linda the pictures were great. I think the mazda3 is now officially broken in. I may have overheated the tranny a bit though. There was something leaking onto the driveway this morning after Jen left for work. at least we're bringing it to Umazda tonight for them to check it out.
As always it was great fun to see everyone! It may not have been crystal clear but at least the roads were dry.

Anibal, it helps that you KILLED me on the launch both times. Next time I'm letting the tires rip and then we'll see.
I heard from Tony, the guy in the 308 Ferrari: He took off like a bat out of hell thinking he was trying to catch up with Anibal, Jonah, and I. He actually got to finish the whole route, and waited for us on the mountain, but my Nav skills being what they are...well, we all know I'm shopping for something to alleviate that problem.
