Yup, yup - about to be hitting my 32K mileage on my 8 and I'm about to do some maintenance to keep the car happy and all. I'm pretty sure some of you out there would be saying to me, "ZOMGWTFBBQ! You should've done yours at 15k or 30k! Why now?!" Well it's simple economics, that's why. Back then, I didn't have enough of these ---> $$$$. And now that I've accumulated a few extra of those, I can divert some funds to my "Project 8varium."

Anyways, I just wanted to get some thoughts and opinions in "cleaning up" my ignition system. I'm definitely changing my current plugs with new ones (I have an extra set of OEM plugs from the dealer which are the NGK brand) and I'll be getting a new set of ignition wires as well (either from Racing Beat or Mazsport - haven't decided yet). Now someone suggested that I should also change my current coils with a set of new ones as well since I should've changed them with my plugs at 15k. Now if I think about it, if I'll be changing my plugs, coils, and wires - I might as well just get Mazsport's Ignition Solution kit. I really don't want to spend that much but I think I can secretly garner some more extra $$$ without my Chief Financial Officer (which of course is my wife) finding out. But then again, saving money is ALWAYS good. I know Shaunv74 was planning on picking up Mazsport's Ignition Solution. Where you able to get one already, Shaun?

So what do you guys think? Just change my plugs and wires? Or also change my coils? Or just change my plugs and get Mazsport's Ignition Solution? I'm actually about 89% decided to one but I wanted to see everybody else's opinion before I actually commit.

By the way, besides cleaning up my ignition system - I'm also doing the usual oil change, and replacing the trans fluid/differential fluid.

Only change the coils if you're having problems. I've got >73K on my car, and the coils seem to be fine still. If you're not misfiring, don't worry about it. Check the plugs before you change them. If they're not fouled, leave 'em in. One would hope you'd get to 60K on them. Of course, if they are fouled, change 'em, and drive harder next time. You need to burn that carbon off.

Plug wires? Why?

Take the money I just saved you and go buy some gas so you can ENJOY the car.

At 32K I just replaced my plugs and wires. The coils on my car were just fine. Currently I'm at 37K and everything is still smooth. For the wires I went with the Magnecor, they were only $50 on Mazdatrix.com. For $50 the only thing the wires are good for is for looks in the engine bay.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'm going to start working on my 8 once summer has fully blown into WA.

My 2 cents,

I'm at 42K and still on the original coils. And still runs great! I skipped the 30K service cuz I got a new battery, new plugs and new starter when they replaced my intake manifold at 31K.

I've been thinking about replacing trans fluid/diff fluid at 45K...... .... and maybe getting that mazsport ignition solution kit, if I can save up some money by the end of the year.........
