You're probably still revving her to high for good mileage. Remember, by 3500 revs you've got your secondary intakes and injectors online, and by 5500 the tertiaries are online. My commute has about a mile of freeway, the rest is on local roads. When I behave I can get 24 (rated in-town mileage). It's very painful to behave, though. You're mileage sounds about right. I have noticed smoother running with the premium. I ran the cheap stuff for about a year myself to save cost. If you're going to keep that up, as least use an additive with it.

The secondaries don't just suddenly open at 3500- they open near 3500 when the load is correct. The idea that the computer just snaps them open at 3500 and starts injecting more fuel isn't totally correct. If you're at 3600 and 10% throttle, they won't be open.
Congrats on your mileage though. I get fine HW economy, but 14.5 in town is my best ever over a whole tank. Only time I've ever seen 200 miles before the light comes on was a cruise down to Portland.
And FYI, the in-town rating is 18 and the highway is 24. If you're getting 24 in town, you offically have the most efficent RX8 ever.

I have an A/T and I figured it get around 15-18 in town and about 22-24 hwy depending on the gas I run. I have been haveing the best luck using Shell. I have been using Chevron but with the rattle noise I am still having with the engine we are trying a different brand to see. But 24 around town congrats to that one!

Are you all for real???????????
The best I've got was 15.6 all freeway and doing the limit.
the worst I got was 12.3mpg!! running hard in the hills.
But I'm around 14 all the time what gives?
I use about a quart of oil every 700 to 800 miles as well.

Lol! I wish I got that kind of fuel mileage. I have had my car at the dealership twice in the past month and about to bring it in again because I get an average of 13 MPG no matter how I drive it. Of course all HWY driving will be a little better, but I'm talking about an equal share of the two types. First they said they couldn't do anything, because there wasn't any codes set, then they changed my O2 sensors, and they said if that didn't fix it I had to drop it off there so they can drive it 120 miles to monitor the fuel consumption themselves. I love the car though, lol!

I have to put maybe a quart of oil in every month. Mine is a daily driver as well. I put at least 1,000 miles a month. I know its more. Every car is going to be a bit different. Like I said earlier I am still having problems with mine making engine noise.

My bad. I should pay more attention when using a calculator. When I baby the car (that almost never happens) I do get very close to the rated mileage.
Sorry for the confusion, looking at those numbers, I'd be as astounded as the rest of you.

Does anyone know why I hear a slight ringing when I press on the gas. It is only when I press the gas, I made sure of that. It is weird. I am guessing that it is the fuel filter? Help guys.

I've got 4000 miles on mine now and I've been averaging about 14.5 MPG. Road trips that are mostly highway I'm looking at more like 16.5/17 MPG. I tend to drive fairly fast and like to pass so I'm not keeping a consistent speed by any stretch of the imagination. I've tried to be more mellow to improve gas milage but it's just too tempting to stick the pedal down. It's a fun car to drive and I want to drive it!

Kind of like the sound you hear when you fill-up
your car at the filling station???
On a serious note....
My 04' RX8 AT got a low of of 9 MPG... ugh!
My 06' RX8 MT gets 19 MPG with the same driving habits...
Like the multitude of MPG threads here, you'll find
that your MPG is average or better then average....
Rotary engines are thirsty, get use to it...

I got 23 two tanks ago, but that was mostly freeway (90%).
