dondo and I summited the top of South Early Winters Spire today. It was quite a hike and a climb, but a lot of fun. We got off the rock just in time as it started to rain and lightning.

ohhhnoooeeesssss! ive been unwisely ignoring a rough idle lately... and today we stalled out at a stop light. didn't die completely, i gave it some gas to bring it back to life.

soooo do i do plugs/wires/coils first, or just head straight for a dealership for CAT/compression tests? MAF is clean, but i could use a new air filter and throttlebody cleaning as well.

How many miles? Do you know when the last time the plugs and coils were swapped?

Knight Sports new CF lip that can be added to their bumper.

I started a thread with the Sept 2010 article on the car: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/knight-sports-rx-8-import-tuner-article-202197/

we're right around 46k... i havent changed since i bought it at 26k... so there's 20k at least on them. who knows if they were changed by the previous owner or not. i know that's something i need to do in the very near future... so i guess i'll do that first. maybe have the CAT looked at as well since it's under warranty still.

I would definitely swap the coils and plugs and do a decarb. You can do all this yourself and save a lot of money. The dealership will $700+. You can do it for less than $300. All the guys up there will definitely help you out if you and or your husband are not comfortable doing it yourself.

Read up on Seafoam. It removes the carbon build up inside the motor. It is good maintenance to for our motors. It creates a lot of smoke and smells like hell so you will need to do it where it will not create problems for your neighbors.

You need to remove a couple of things to access the vacuum lines right? So if you're comfortable removing engine components, then you'll be good. I think the only thing that really needs to be moved is the washer fluid reservoir.

oh decarb.... i get it, get rid of carbon deposits. Duuuuuhhhh blonde moment. ya, i can do that.
ive read thru the seafom/zoomzoom cleaner DIY's a few times in the past. i'll do that.
is it better to do plug/coil swap before the cleaner, or does it matter which order?

A Mazda tech once told me being gentle on our engines is the worse thing that you can do (not saying that you're not.) He said that you should redline the car at least once a day and that you need to get the engine hot to keep the carbon from building up. About once a week, while driving on the freeway I'll hold the car at 60 in second gear for a bit to get the engine nice and hot. That's what I do with the info I got from the Tech. If your car still has original plugs they just might be ready to be replaced, mine were completely shot at 18k.

Well I'm starting to notice horrible fuel economy...I got 60 miles and I'm just about 60% full...This isn't going well. Normally I'll get about 100-110 on half a tank...

Also... oil changes matter a lot.
