NW Oil Poll sorta

Id rather not look it up, but what do you guys use for oil, on my 04 i used Synth (Castrol GTX) and was planning on using it till i saw my paperwork I never got with my 04, it says to not use synthetic, so i called U Mazda whom I trust and they say its because the rotary's (im paraphrasing it because i kinda forgot the exact wording) need the oil to burn, and synth wont burn. So now im wondering...

*shrug* i mean im sure eventually ill use synth in the gearbox ect, because I see the benefits of that, but oil is oil, especially when you actually change it every 3-4k.

Whats all you northwesterners opinion?

There are tons of people on here that use full synthetic with absolutely no issue (just ask RotaryGod). The people at U Mazda are just following what they think is right from the manual (as they should, they're a dealership). But there isn't any proof that it damages the engine, it probably helps make it run better in the long haul...

In any case I use Castrol 5w-20 synthetic blend.

My opinion is look it up.

There's a big sticky right at the top of the tech garage forum. Give that a try and then tell us what you think.

I use Castrol GTX 5W-20, a dino oil. Why argue with the manufacturer--if they recommend against using synthetic, who am I to think they're wrong?

This is number 3 for me as for rotary car, and if it burns oil, why pay more for it. On my 86 GTU I got around 130,000 mile with not one engine problem, and I did crash it at 130mph a round 90,000 mile. fix it, after that the next year one drunk driver crash me, and the next year I lost control on the rail, drive in a hurricane back home in Puerto Rico, that was around 110,000 miles. after that no more accident, but i did have to get a twin turbo 93. and I had no problem in that one for 50,000 miles, I had to sale it to come here after I join the US ARMY. and now I have angelica and yes they did replace my engine I do not use Synth oil, and shaunv74 got a new engine, and he does use Synth oil, so it is up to you in other worlds.

Correction: to Anibal. I used dino oil before and will be switching to synth at my first oil change after my new engine.

mazda says not to use full synthetic. although i've found it to be split down the middle for 8 owners. i use catrol gtx 5w20. i might start using royal purple. i try to change mine every 2k. so far this year i have already put 18k on it.

I spoke with MNAO about it directly and they say that as long as you are using 5x20 weight it doesn't matter. There were no problems I could think of going with full synth versus dino or blend.

i think the manual says not to use synthetic because mazda hasn't tested the 8 with it...they're probably just covering their asses....

Yes Kris does use Synth.

Hey guys let's not start another "synth vs. dino oil" thread there's a big sticky at the top of the tech section about this with all the relevant information so you can make your own informed decision.

Just wanted to know the NW's opinion, don't want to start a "why use this" long thread.

Yes, I use it. I have had 0 issues. For my latest theory, go ahead and PM me, as I agree with Shaun, we don't need another detailed thread.

^ That's what I top off with. Otherwise, I use what the dealership puts in when I get my oil changed.
