Poor RX-8

Luckily its not mine =)

Went to University Mazda to have my oil changed... Which by the way they have punch cards, 5th one is free... anyways there was a Red 8 up in the air, with hood on top of the cab, and the engine on the floor... I feel sorry for this 8... I asked about it, they let me go over and take a look at the engine and whatnot, and the rep said, the lady who owned it had a problem where it doesnt have any power.. her husband in a B2000 passed her on the free way, she brought it in and the dealer called Mazda and they said to send them the ECU and they will fix it, they got the ECU back, and now it wont even make it up hills... Lame, so now they got to wait for Mazda to tell them what to do. Another related note, he was telling me how they are getting 8's in that have loss of power due to carbon build up, and he told me (especially with Automatics) people are not driving their cars spirited enough, and since they just drive it like a normal car, its getting carbon build ups... lol "SEE WIFE?!?! the dealer wants me to drive this way, or it will break my car!" hehe.

I have no problems complying w/ their recommendation, thats what makes the car so fun to drive. But really you get a free oil change after the 4th punch, I need to start taking my 8 there.

$5 says it's the cat. My car could barely run at freeway speeds when the cat was bad.

Maybe the cat, but they yanked the engine! Hmmm - damn automatics. They are giving the Renesis a bad rap. WTF were they thinking bringing that to market.

Interesting.

The posts about the ATs losing power almost always come from someone in a hot climate like Nevada, Texas, Arizona, etc. This is the first one I've heard of from our sweet temperate climate.

I wonder if it is the same issue?

I remember him saying something about a normal morning temp around here theres no problems but when it hits 70 degrees thats when all the problems start.

that si teh first i have heard from up here- and i follow this closer than anybody outside of mazda and closer than alot inside of mazda. she may have similar symptoms but not from the same issue. it takes over 100 degree days in vegas to see one.

kevin- we're just at 200 cars since last year. and they have sold more ATs than MTs. that was what they were thinking.

LOL - good C. But look who is buying them. I keep trying to flag down this lady in Montesano that owns a White 8, to check out her car's condition, but I think she thinks I'm a crazy man or something when I wave my hands and arms at her as she drives by. I don't look like a car jacker. It's an auto, and I want to see how it is running.

Oh well - let's see, how much do they make on a sale vs. how they spend fixing them? The reputation is at stake remember. You never have a second chance to make a first imperession
