Puget Sound/Seattle Winter Tires?

Is anyone out there from Puget Sound/Seattle Area?? I'm contemplating snow tires for my RX-8. I've been in the Seattle Area for 2.5 years now, so I've been here for two winters (both without the snow tires). People have always told me that we get almost no snow here...only rarely. But the last two winters, we've gotten a lot (ok..nothing compared to the mid-west...but I'm from CA

I slid several times last year and was very nervous about driving in the snow (last year was much worse then the year before). It seems that the snow here is usually just occasional. Every couple of weeks throughout winter, we have a few days where snow sticks to the ground. A lot of the driving ends up being in slush. The worst was actually the ice last year - I had it for weeks at a time every morning on my way to work...

What do people suggest? Find a ride or bus for the snow days, or get snow tires? I saw one thread from 3 or so years ago for the Puget Sound area - but I'm looking for "fresh" opinions I'm curious what percentage of RX-8 owners get winter tires vs not (in this area)

And perhaps I should also mention that I have the most basic RX-8...so no traction control.

Thanks,
Scott

Summer tires don't work at all in the snow. Especially on this car. I have a set of 17" Dunlop M3 winter snow tires for sale for $100. You'll need 17" rims for them. If you're willing to wait a week or so I'm getting some new rims and will be able to sell the set of tires with rims for $500.

Other folks go with all seasons on their car that seem to work fairly well.

Here is the link to my FS thread.

Note: I'm selling the tires right now for $100 for the set. As soon as my RPF1's come in I'll be swapping out the rims and will be selling as a full rim and tire set for $500. The rims are the ones in the pictures.

Hey Shaun, which offset did you get? It came up on the STX thread that +35 isn't nearly as close a call on the calipers as my +45's.

I think they are +45's. I bought them off the Good Win Racing site.

If the balance weights aren't flush up against the spokes, you'll need to have them rebalanced. Other than that, welcome to the RPF1 club! Just in time to replace Chris

i have snow tires and they work wonders in the winter. but i do still drive on my summers in the snow and it's a lot more sideways driving than normal.
