Race in May! (2010, Seattle Area)
Sorry I’m late getting this posted this month, but the last 3 weeks of work have been absolutely insane. It’s finally May! Everything is up in full swing. Memorial Day Weekend is a triple-header if you want but be aware that that Monday BSCC event was PACKED last year, like 240 entrants or something equally ludicrous. New for this month, I’m going to try and stay on top of ORP events but since I’m unfamiliar with the Oregon clubs, I’m going by what I see on Motorsportsreg.com + Seattle area clubs that are making the trip.
I'll try and keep up with who plans on attending what event. If it's too much of a pain in the ***, I'll stop. Regardless of if I update the Members planning on attending lists, we can use this thread to organize meeting up to go to an event etc. as well. The Tacoma Mall Krispy Kreme has worked out pretty well for Bremerton based events. Southcenter Mall would work out better for Packwood events for those going *** early. Click the location link for directions to any of the sites. For PR, click the directions link on their site (it's in Java so I can't link straight to it).
Membership Requirements:
Pre-registration varies from Event to Event. Pre-Registration is always cheaper, sometimes required, but not always available more than 2 weeks before the event. Always check the link for a given event.

Membership Requirements:
- Alfa Events: No Membership Required
- BEAC Events: Must be a Boeing Employee
- BSCC Events: Must be a BSCC Member [$20 Membership]
- Porsche Pacific Northwest Events: Schools - Porsche Club Sponsor or Membership in one of the following clubs: PCA, Alfa, Audi, BMWCCA, BSCC, Corvette, Mini, Viper, or PDC club member
- Porsche Club Oregon Region: Unknown, see http://www.oregonpca.org/
- Proformance Racing School: Must be a client for all non-school events, going to a school makes you a client, or be a member of the Alfa or Porsche clubs.
- NWR SCCA Events: Membership Required [$10 Weekend memberships available on site, full memberships available online for $45 or $60, up to 3 weekend memberships can count towards a full one]
- SCCA Oregon Region Events: Membership Required [$10 Weekend memberships available on site, full time memberships must be Dual Region]
- WWSCC - No Membership Required (I think)
Pre-registration varies from Event to Event. Pre-Registration is always cheaper, sometimes required, but not always available more than 2 weeks before the event. Always check the link for a given event.
Remember to Bring:
- Oil - During the lapping days you can burn as much as a quart! Autocross days are less, but it's still worth topping off at the beginning of the event
- Sunblock - Especially for the autocross events where you'll spend half the time working the course
- Water - No matter what the event, it's going to be hot in your helmet and car
- Helmet (If you have one that meets the requirements) - All clubs require a helmet, some will lend you one in exchange for your license, others will charge you money to rent one. Helmet Requirements (always double check the club's listing!):
- AutoX - Snell Approved M2000 or higher
- Lapping - Snell Approved SA2005 or higher
- Cash - At almost all Bremerton events, the local Lions Club will show up and serve cheap burgers, hot dogs and Philly Cheese Steaks but they're cash only
- Your Checkbook - All autocross events that involve timing equipment have a rule: If you car touches the timing equipment, it's a $100 fine payable on the spot. You can sometimes run and pick up money from an ATM down the street but it's easier if you have your checkbook handy.
- Don't be intimidated by this, in reality, it's very rare. The club doesn't WANT this to happen, so they setup the course to try and prevent it from happening
- Gas
- AutoX - 1/2 tank or more
- AutoX Practice - Full tank
- School - Full Tank
- Lapping - Full Tank

Yah, the excuse given is that it's because the pavement on it is getting torn up. To be fair, AutoX does put a lot of lateral stress on the road that a track day doesn't in that area, but it's going to make for a lot less interesting of a course...
But hey, at least no one can go in the ditch now. Maybe they'll use more of the Runway to compensate?

If you go to each of the clubs' sites, they usually list their events for the whole season. I guess I could add a list to the top of the thread with every page I pulled the events from. Would that be worthwhile?

So I was given a copy of the notice that went out to all the event planners regarding the taxiway. It's worse than just the taxiway:

The ancient taxiway and some sections of the runway are getting pretty bad. Added to the age factor, the ground water remains very high and there seems to be more now than ever. There are areas where as you walk you can see water bubble up from cracks thirty feet away. We can see the hydraulic forces moving the asphalt surface. This happens most every winter but never before this late in the season. Last season and again this year, BMP invested in some surface and drainage repairs. We repaired as much area in critical locations as we could. While we were crafting the plan and identifying the areas needing attention something became clear, where do you stop?
These are the measures we are taking to minimize the damage and wear on the track. We are asking for your help in managing this situation.
1. The taxiway north of the big crossover is now quarantined from auto cross setups. The pavement is used up and we still need to be able to use this area to have some kind of a lapping course. Please limit the auto cross racing activity to the runway only. No competition speeds or maneuvers on the taxiway north of the big crossover.
2. When setting up your event course pay attention to the surface. Where your design will focus forces please place those forces on good pavement and avoid the bad spots. This is necessary to prolong the useful life of the facility.
3. Please keep an eye on the surface during your events and if damage starts, make adjustments to the setup. Already this season there have been several situations where corner locations have resulted in damage.
4. Until further notice, we are requiring that all site use be kept completely off the drag strip lanes except for lapping setups at the crossover to the taxiway. Continue to use the pavement parallel to the drag lanes. Some lapping setup corners carry over onto the drag strip. This will not be allowed until further notice.
5. Skid pad/traction circles will not be allowed to carry onto the drag strip anywhere along the ź mile or the staging lanes. There is room for them at the northern most section of the runway by the fence if you feel you can’t keep of the lanes.
6. School setups need to remain completely off the drag strip too. Braking and avoidance along side is ok but keep to the opposite side as far as possible.
The BMP Board recognizes these limitations will mean changes to your operations. We are exploring options to improve the situation and avoid further site use limitations. To do nothing and allow the damage to continue would not be good for anyone. We are working to make the best of the situation for everyone. Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated.

Turns out the PCA event on the 15th-16th is in danger of being cancelled from insufficient sign-ups. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't post?

Someone at work posted a video of PR post the repaving on T2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh6xr6IrWCE
Also, I want a 'vette. He's on A6's, but he's also pushing 160 through T1 when no one is in front of him (Also, that ZR1 driver is a bit of a wimp).

My original thought was it was a "typical 'vette" going fast on the straights and slow through the twistes, however on watching the video again, particularly when he gets out on his own, the guy driving this car is really fast. It's a C5 Z06 on A6's which I guess should've been a clue, but on further discussions with him and another guy... yah, he's just plain fast
The Bing 911 driver was saying he has the best lines of any DE video he's ever seen from PR... so yah, foot in mouth on that one a bit.

Mr. Örange
Don't forget, anyone who is willing to take the risk of their life/health and their car is not wimpy (even if they're the slowest car on the track.)
I think all of us watch a lot of Top Gear and see what the cars are capable of doing and forget that when you see track videos that you're watching amatuer drivers (having the time of their life) and not professionals.
